Well the best way to do this would be to chose squritle at the start and train it to lvl 15 but in the long term it is better to use Charmander but get it to lvl 16 so it will Evolve before you fight Brock

TwilightPrince answered:

Capture a Bellsprout which will come in handy against Brock's
Rock Pokemon and also will come in handy when fighting against Misty
Later on against her Water Pokemon.

Level it up at least to 16 or so, so it'll do more damage.

Also Capture a Pikachu in the Forest it will also come in handy when fighting against Misty's water Pokemon.

Hope this helps Smile

Depends on your Starter Pokemon - if you chose Squirtle, it should be very easy.

If not, go catch a grass type Pokemon (make sure it is grass, not bug), and train to around level 15. Next gym is water type Pokemon, so I'd advise catching a Pikachu and continuing to level your grass type Pokemon.

Rangerman answered:

Get a grass Pokemon and use grass attacks on his pokemon. If it still doesn't help, level up your Pokemon to level 10 or 15.
