Question for Pokemon Emerald

For the Battle Palace, I got beaten by Spencer even while using A lv 65 Sceptile, Houndoom, and Swampert. They are the nature of which is described: They like to be sneaky, but if they become to injured, they will worry about themselves.

Move list:
Sceptile

Leaf blade
Detect
Aerial ace
Quick attack

Swampert

Surf
Endeavor
Earthquake
Ice Beam

Houndoom

Fire Blast
Flamethrower
Return
Crunch

How did I lose!

Oh yes, and as a final question, I want to use a Slaking in the palace as an alternate, but I am having a hard time deciding attacks.
My one choice is:

Slack Off
Focus Punch
Counter
Slash

Or I would use:

Focus Punch
Yawn
Slash
Endure

He is a Hardy, so he is an attacker. Write back and critique soon

First of all which do you want on your houndoom. Teach him either flamethrower OR fire blast. Reason#1 you lost. If your hound has fire blast, teach it
Endure, reversal, and crunch.(You can get reversal by breeding. Try a vigoroth. He learns it at 49). If he has flamethrower, teach him solarbeam, crunch and sunny day. You don't need 2 offensive moves of the same type! I'm sick of telling people this!Reason#2 you lost, your sceptile sucks. If you look on the upper portion of the page I put tips for a movest. For the swapert, breed it with a ditto and start over from the mudkip. Train it to lv.42 so it will learn hydro pump. It's not fun getting it that high but mudkip is the only phase that learns it. Following that your swapert should know, ice beam,earthquake, and protect. As for the Slaking remember his truant ability. But if you really want one I would suggest earthquake, shadow ball, aerial ace and maybe slack off.
