Is there a limit for where Effort Points?

Question for Pokemon Emerald
Is there a limit for where Effort Points? I noticed when I was training my Absol, when I leveled it up it's Speed went up by 21 and then when it leveled it up again it only went up by 4. Also, my Crobats Attack went up by 9 then only went up by 3. I was battling the same Pokemon over and over again to raise those stats, my Pokemon had Pokerus and a MachoBrace so I could get 4x's the effort points. Also, if there is a limit, then does it count for all stats or just one?

Yes there is an overall limit of 510 effort points. However, one stat can only gain a maximum of 255 Effort Points. So basically, you can only get two stats maxed out on Effort Points.

In total, you can have 510 Effort Points. 255 is the maximum you can EV train them for one stat, but EV's in your stats go up by fours. So everytime you get four in one stat, you'll gain one point next time you level up.
