At the beginning always pick the Pokemon with good attacks, have varied types and if it is an option get the Kingdra with attract. It is a life saver.
Hope this helps

The Battle frontier...Battle Arena is where the place is.

BBG_CREECAT answered:

To get the hang of it, you can go to the Battle Tent in Slateport which you have to borrow Pokemon from too. (The various Battle Tents around Hoenn are like a preview of the Battle Frontier challenges, easier of course, but it'll give you some practice.) Plus, you can trade out for ones you've beaten, so pay attention to their moves/items/ability to find the best choices for replacements, and that's the best way to gain the best team, so trade as often as you possible as it's to your advantage to gain more powerful Pokemon, and that's how to do it. So, start with the best 3 of the 6-diversity is super important, then perhaps a toughy to hold out until the end of the match-and then replace as many as you can without messing up your varied team, especially take the ones who were toughest to beat. Pay attention to the advice you're given too as that'll give you an idea of how your next opponent will battle. Good luck!
