Yes you can, but to actually trade you need to do something on the islands

Yup it can, it can also link up with Pokemon Firered, Ruby, and Sapphire.

Yes, provided you defeated the Pok�mon League on both games and recovered the Ruby and Sapphire and given them to Celio on Leaf Green.
