In Fire red/Leaf green you pick bulbasaur,squirtle and charmender. Pick one of them as your starter. If you know how the story line or red/blu/yellow, thats the story line of Fire red and Leaf green
Ruby and sapphire is almost the same as emerald but you get Kyogre and latias in sapphire and Groudon and latios in ruby.
