The best way to prevent your emerald game from crashing (cheat wise or due to a game bug or glitch causing it), is to use you emerald master code followed by emerald anti-dma:
Master Code (M) for Emerald USA:
D8BAE4D9 4864DCE5

... Despite the fact that dma functions slightly different than one for fire red/leaf green, during game testing I use them in the same manner.
1) Where you are: Input (M) code in cheats menu. Make sure it's enabled.
2) Enter a different location: Input Anti-DMA code in cheats menu. Make sure it's enabled.
3) Return to that area with *Both* code enabled. This will prevent your game from crashing.
... If in the case of cheat use:
4) Once you finished utilizing your cheat (being the 3rd code you enabled), Disable codes in the following order: Cheat/DMA/M
* In the case of Emerald though:
Please keep in mind, that game in particular has a whole bunch of measures taken... When it comes to cheat use. Be mindful with what cheats you use in it, some cheat actions have random consequences. Somes cheat types in Emerald (in particular), are rigged with negative side effects for you future game.
