Hi!
You can tell by going to Pokemon during the battle and seeing if your Pokemon is now holding something when it wasn't before, or just check after the battle.

One of my favorite moves..Trick is good, too.(Kadabra/Alakazam get it at Lv 43) I can usually tell when I get an item this way because it will kind of fall off the other guy(like when knock off is used)and come towards you-it looks like a package with a tie around the top. It should even tell you that you just stole the wild pokemon's something. If all else fails, you can always check the Pokemon with the Menu option and Summary for details.
