Heart Scales are good for learning different kinds of attacks. Take them to the Move Tutor in Fallarbor.
If you like contests but don't have any good moves or TMs, you can use the Heart Scales to get the Move Tutor to teach your Pokémon some befitting moves.

Take them to the Move Tutor. In exchange for a Heart Scale, he will teach one Pokemon (any one, provided they have learned other moves before) any move that they knew in the past but do not currently know.
This can sometimes be useful. Remember that some Pokemon gain these 'forgotton' moves by evolving, and can only learn them this way even though they never actually knew them.

Take them to the Move tutor and get some of your pokemons old moves back or you could always sell them.
