A wonderously useful item for the most part. There is a fellow in the north of fallarbor city who, in exchange for a heart scale, will teach a Pokemon a move is knew in the past and get rid of an existing move, just like what happens when they level up. This can be particularly useful when you catch higher level Pokemon or higher evolutions of Pokemon which may have gotten very useful moves deleted. Also sometimes if you look at a pokedex online it will show what moves a Pokemon learns at what levels... Sometimes it will show a random move that doesnt have a level but is definitely there. A heart scale and the move tutor in fallarbor town is the means to get these moves on your pokemon.

go to the beach in lilycove and talk to the rocks and the will a heart scale and go to fallarboar tow and your pokemon can learn kool moves

You get the heart scale from some of the wild luvdisc's that you can catch. They might be holding one of them. Then you bring them to a man in the top left of fallarbor town and he will trade the heart scale and teach 1 of your pokemon a move it has forgotten. Also it doesn't matter if you never tought it the move, just as long as it should have known it

Heart scales are virtually useless. All you can do with them is make Pokemon remember moves, which unless you deleted one for a tm/hm, you shouldnt have to do because you should not delete moves you want.

A heart scale is used to make your Pokemon remember moves that you might of accidentally deleted or moves that your Pokemon never knew but the move tutor guy did. To find a heart scale there are three simple ways: 1. You might find one on the ground or your zigzagoon/linoone might pick one up 2. You could try clicking "a" on rocks, which is useful to find any type of items 3. You can get them from luvdisc which are found in the water at Ever Grand City, you could capture the luvdisc every time or you could just use the move thief on a luvdisc to get a heart scale from it. Once you have your heart scale bring it to the second house on the left (from the pokecenter) and look for the house labeled "Move Tutor" in Fallabor city and talk to the man in the house and he will let you remember your move in exchange for one heart scale.
