To S-rank the navis, you need to make sure that you have the super armor attatched in your navi customizer. That will help you to beat them with the hit timer disabled.

You also need good chips like the three gun del sol chips for a piledriver or two. A good tactic to use would be to use a fan on them with the number soul so that whenever they move back they can get dragged forward, putting them in a perfect position to be taken down by lifeswords and pile drivers.

Lots of the navis like roll and woodman are hard to s rank because they move around (roll) and have high hit points (woodman). So S-ranking them is like beating duo with your elbows.
