What do you do with the Hammer in the Hammer Place. Press A to start swingin', but then what?

If you are talking about the slammer mini-game, I have the answer for you.

First, wait until the thing in the middle shows a charachter's face. If it's yours, press A to slam the opponent. If it's your opponents, press B to defend and have the hammer bounce back to him. This is a test of reflexes. If you press anything while the thing in the middle is still going, it will slam you.
