Question for Golden Sun: The Lost Age

I bought this game used, so it didn't come with an indroduction manual thing. I'm stuck at the Shrine of the Sea God, or whatever it's called. I saw the little movie, and met the guy trying to help his friend (I forgot his name). I know you can walk on the driftwood and you hop to that last stone, but you can't climb up the ledge? Please tell me what to do.

You need to get lash from kandorean temple then come back and use it on the rope and it sends the rope up to the pole then hear them talk about a critter which is actually a djinn so you then find it and chase it around until a a bit with a raised part and a fire post push the post into hole between the raised part then go to it and it will run to the fire and stop then battle it and you have a jupiter djinn.
