Game Reviews for Advance Wars

Quick Reviews

Pretty good, despite its looksAdded 14 Oct 2008, ID #12411
Advance Wars is a turn-based strategy game, similar to Fire Emblem. The game requires much strategy since you must build units and send them into battle. You must determine which units to send for each situation. Like many other strategy games, Advance Wars has Fog of War, which limits unit vision. Though the characters are cartoonish, the story is actually well-developed, and the controls are pretty simple. This game gets an 8.5 in my opinion.

Advance Wars is a truckload of war, fun, and strategy all packed into a little cartridge.

This game will test you to the limits with its campaign mode, war room, vs mode, and link mode.

Once you think you finished with Advance War's campaign mode, it unravels a whole new level of strategy into the game.

The Advanced campaign is tougher and requires more brilliant thinking to triumph over the evil Sturm.

This game has so many ways to conquer the enemy, with 9 different terrain types, and over 15 different units to use, you can, and often have to, come up with different strategic plans for every mission.

Some people may think that the "turn method" of play is rather stupid or boring, that just adds to the strategy of the game.

You have to figure out what to move where, and on what exact turn, because that could mean the difference between victory or defeat, and it often does.

If you love games where you can command multiple different units, and games where you need a strategic mind to win, this is exactly that and more.

With all different modes metioned earlier, Advance Wars boasts endless gameplay.

Even if you beat everything that is beatable (which would take almost forever), you can make your own maps with the map editor, and even trade them with your friends.

This game is much more than you'd expect from a handheld system.

Advance Wars may not sound like a very challenging game, but it is. The game has plenty of levels and extras like multiplayer, map design, and a map store. You can link up to four players for multiplayer, or play against the computer! I give Advance Wars a 8 out of 10!
