-----Guide------

PALLET TOWN
Pick up the Potion from your PC, and then leave the house. Try to
leave town, and Professor Oak stops you. Once in his lab, choose a
Pokemon when prompted.
     Charmander - a Fire-type Pokemon
     Squirtle - a Water-type Pokemon
     Bulbasaur - a Grass-type Pokemon
Try to leave the lab, and your rival challenges you to a fight.
Leave the lab, and speak to your mom to heal your Pokemon (she is
the equivalent of a Poke Center in Pallet Town) or go North to
Route 1.

ROUTE 1
Keep out of the tall grass to avoid Pokemon battles for now (unless
you wish to increase your Pokemon's strength level, of course).
Speak to the first person you see to get a Potion. Onwards to
Viridian City.

VIRIDIAN CITY
Enter the Poke Mart to get Oak's Parcel, and return to Pallet Town.
You can hop over the low hedges to avoid the grassy areas.

PALLET TOWN
Give the parcel to Prof. Oak, and after a brief conversation, he
will give you a Pokedex. Speak to your rival's sister to get a
Town Map. Now head back to Viridian City.

VIRIDIAN CITY
To the West is Route 22, where you will find your rival with his
Pokemon at Level 9. The gym here won't open until later in the
game. Northward to Route 2 and Viridian Forest. Just before Route
22, there is a man behind a bush. Cut the bush and then speak to
the man to get TM42 - Dream Eater.

ROUTE 2
This route surrounds Viridian Forest, but you can't access all of
it until one of your Pokemon knows the Cut move.

VIRIDIAN FOREST
There are three Bug Catchers here, with their Pokemon at Levels 6
to 9.

PEWTER CITY
If a Pokemon knows Cut, use it on the bush at the back of the
museum, and speak to the guy at the back of the room to get Old
Amber.
Gym Leader - Brock Geodude L12,Onix L14 Boulder Badge
TM34 - Bide You can now use Flash anywhere
After defeating Brock, Eastward to Route 3.

ROUTE 3
The eight trainers here have Pokemon at Levels 9 to 14. Don't buy
a Magikarp at the Poke Center at the end of this route, wait until
you can catch one at Vermillion City for free.

MT. MOON
There are twelve trainers here, their Pokemon are at Levels of 10
to 16. There are two Moon Stones here, the second is hidden in the
short passage just before the Super Nerd guarding the Fossils.
Store whichever fossil you choose on PC - along with the Old Amber
- until you reach Cinnibar Island. Exit the mountain to Route 4.

ROUTE 4
In the grassy area at the end of the route are version specific
Pokemon (Ekans=Red,Sandshrew=Blue). East is Cerulean City.

CERULEAN CITY
In the house next to the Poke Center, you will find someone who
wants to swap their Jynx for a Poliwhirl. Pop back here when you
have nabbed one. You need a Bike Voucher from Vermillion City
before you can obtain a bicycle from the bike shop. You need to
visit Bill's Cottage before the police officer will move, clearing
the way to Vermillion City. To the East is Route 9, but you need
Cut to get through.
Gym Leader - Misty Staryu L18,Starmie L21 Cascade Badge
TM11 - Bubble Beam Pokemon up to L30 obey you

ROUTE 24/25
First, you come across your rival, with his Pokemon at Levels 15 to
18. Nugget Bridge has trainers with Pokemon at Levels up to 17.

BILL'S SEA COTTAGE
Talk to the Pokemon, and then activate the computer program. He
will give you the S.S. Ticket in return. Leave the cottage and
re-enter. Check the PC to get four pictures for your Pokedex.

CERULEAN CITY
Enter the house where the police officer is, and go through the
hole in the back. Fight the Rocket to get TM28 - Dig. South to
Route 5.

ROUTE 5
The building in the middle is the Day Care Center. The guy inside
will charge you 100 credits, plus 100 credits per level that the
Pokemon increases by. You cannot choose which skills the Pokemon
forgets when it levels up, however. The large building is the
gatehouse to Saffron City, but it is blocked for the moment. Use
the building in the corner, and the tunnel to Route 6.

ROUTE 6
The Pokemon belonging to the trainers here are at levels of 16 to
20. The Level 20 Butterfree here has Sleep Powder, so stock up on
Awakening potions. To the South is Vermillion City.

VERMILLION CITY
Speak to the guy in the house to the left of the Poke Center to get
an Old Rod. Use this in the water outside to hook a Magikarp (this
is a good one to leave in the Day Care Center, it evolves into
Gyarados - and then learns Bite - at Level 20). In the house
directly South of the fishing guru is the Pokemon Fan Club. Speak
to its president, and listen to him go on about his Rapidash to get
the Bike Voucher. Use this in Cerulean City to get a Bicycle. In
the house next to this is someone who will swap their Farfetch'd
for your Spearow. To reach the Gym, you will need to Cut the bush
that is in the way. The three trainers have Pokemon at Levels of
up to 23. The switches to the Gym Leader are in the bins. Press
'A' to search each bin. The second switch is in the bin next to
the one that contained switch number one.
Gym Leader - Lt. Surge Pikachu L18,Raichu L24,Voltorb L21
             Thunder Badge TM24 - Thunderbolt
             You can use Fly anywhere
To the East is Route 11, and the S.S. Anne is to the South.

S.S. ANNE
The trainers here have Pokemon with Levels reaching 23. Before
reaching the captain, your rival appears, with Pokemon at Levels of
16 to 20. Talk to the captain, and he will give you HM01-Cut.
When you leave the ship after speaking to the captain, it leaves,
so make sure that you have all of the items that you were searching
for.

ROUTE 11
The trainers here have Pokemon at Levels 18 to 21. At the start of
this area is the entrance to Diglett's Cave, which leads to Route
2. At the other end of Route 11 is a gatehouse. Upstairs, speak
to Oak's Aide when you have 30 Pokemon to get an Item Finder. The
other side of the gatehouse is a Snorlax. You need a Poke Flute to
wake it up.

ROUTE 2
The guy in the house to the South has a Mr Mime that he wants to
swap for an Abra. Further to the South is a building where you
find Oak's Aide, who will give you HM05-Flash when you have caught
at least 10 Pokemon. There is also a Moon Stone in this area.

ROUTE 9/10
At the end of Route 9, Surf the water at the top, and follow it
round to reach the Power Plant. Follow Route 9 round to a Poke
Center, and the entrance to Rock Tunnel. Route 10 is at the exit
to Rock Tunnel. Go West for some trainers, or East for a
trouble-free route to Lavender Town.

ROCK TUNNEL
You don't really need Flash to get through here (you can just make
out the walls and ladders), but it is very hard to avoid some of
the trainers here. However, not all of the trainers are avoidable.
Their Pokemon are at Levels 19 to 25.

LAVENDER TOWN
The large building on the right is Pokemon Tower, but you can't get
anywhere without the Silph Scope. West is Route 8, and Route 12 is
to the South. In the South-West corner is the Name Rater, who can
rename your Pokemon (not anyone else's Pokemon, though).

ROUTE 8
The trainers Pokemon here reach up to Level 26. At the far end is
another gatehouse, which is currently blocked. The small building
at the top-left holds the entrance to the tunnel that leads to
Route 7.

ROUTE 7
The gatehouse here will lead you to Saffron City, when the guard
has quenched his thirst. West takes you to Celadon City.

CELADON CITY
Go round the back of the houses to find the back door to Celadon
Mansion. At the top is a Poke Ball, pick it up to get an Eevee.
At the very top of the Celadon Department Store is a restaurant,
where there is a drinks vending machine. Give the girl one of each
drink to get a TM. Take a drink to the gatehouse on Route 7 to
open up the gatehouses. To the West is another Snorlax (put it to
sleep, use Confusion if one of your Pokemon has it, and use plenty
of Ultra Balls). Just before the Snorlax, Cut the bush and head up
and to the left to find a house. Speak to the person inside to get
HM02-Fly. Surf across the water in the city's center and speak to
the old man to get a TM which is only for Chansey. Speak to the
guy in the top-left of the diner to get a Coin Case, which you need
to hold the coins in the Game Corner, next to which is the place
where you need to go to cash in your Coins for TMs and Pokemon,
including Porygon (which you can't get anywhere else!). Speak to
the Rocket in Game Corner to fight him. After he has left, examine
the picture to flip the switch to gain access to Team Rocket HQ.
Gym Leader - Erika Tangela L24,Victreebel L29,Vileplume L29
Rainbow Badge TM21 - Mega Drain
L50 Pokemon obey you Can now use Strength anywhere

TEAM ROCKET HQ
The Pokemon here are at Levels of 17 to 23. Go to the third
basement and fight the Rocket in the top-left to get the Lift Key.
Take the lift from the first basement to the fourth basement and
Giovanni's office.
Giovanni Onix L25,Rhyhorn L24,Kangaskhan L25 Silph Scope

POKEMON TOWER
Your rival is the first trainer that you meet, his Pokemon now at
Levels 20 to 25. The other trainers' Pokemon are at around Level
23, but a Pokemon with the Dig skill will see them off. When you
reach the fifth level, there is a healing pad in the centre of the
level. The L30 Marowak you fight before reaching Mr Fuji cannot be
caught. Speak to Mr Fuji at the top of the tower, and he will lead
you to his house after a short conversation. Speak to him there,
and he will give you a Poke Flute.

SAFFRON CITY
Give a Poke Doll (bought in Celadon Department Store) to the girl
in the North-West house to get TM31 - Mimic. In the South-East is
a guy who will give you TM29 - Psychic.
Fighting Dojo The leader has a L37 Hitmonlee and a L37
Hitmonchan. When you defeat him, you will be offered either
Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan.
Saffron Gym Gym Leader - Sabrina Kadabra L38,
                  Mr Mime L37,Venomoth L38,Alakazam L43
                  Marsh Badge TM46 - Psywave
Pokemon up to L70 obey you

SILPH CO.
This is the large building in the middle of Saffron City. The
trainers have Pokemon starting at Level 25. You will find the Card
Key on the fifth floor, in the bottom-right corner. Now go to the
third floor, and open the door on the left. Step on the floor tile
and fight your rival with Level 35 to Level 40 Pokemon. After the
fight, speak to the Silph employee to get a Lapras. Step on the
floor tile and make your way to Giovanni.
Giovanni Nidorino L37,Kangaskhan L35,Rhyhorn L37,Nidoqueen L41
Speak to Silph Co's President to get a Master Ball.

ROUTE 12
The trainers' Pokemon on this route near Level 30. Use the Poke
Flute to wake the Snorlax. If you can't catch this one, there is
always the one at Celadon City. In the house after it is the
fishing guru's brother, who will give you a Super Rod. Onwards to
Route 13.

ROUTE 13
The trainers' Pokemon here are at Level 30 plus. South to Route
14.

ROUTE 14/15
Another set of trainers with Level 30+ Pokemon. At the end of this
route there is a gatehouse. Go upstairs to Oak's Aide if you have
50 Pokemon, and he will give you an Exp All.

ROUTE 16/17/18
This is the start of the bikers' route the other side of Celadon
City's Snorlax, so a bicycle is vital. The trainers' Pokemon here
are at Levels 26 to 33.

ROUTE 18
The gatehouse at the end of this route has a guy who wants to swap
his Lickitung for a Slowbro.

FUSCHIA CITY
Entering the Safari Zone will cost you 500 credits, and you get 30
Safari Balls for your money. Make your way to the top of Zone 2,
and use the bottom-left exit. In Zone 3, you will find the Gold
Teeth, and enter the hut in the top-left corner. Speak to the guy
in the hut to get HM03 - Surf. Once outside, go to the two houses
to the right and enter the house on the left. Give the guy the
Gold Teeth to get HM04 - Strength in return. The fishing guru's
other brother is in the other house, and he will give you a Good
Rod.
Gym Leader - Koga Koffing L37,Koffing L37,Muk L39,Weezing L43
             TM06 - Toxic Soul Badge
You can now use Surf anywhere

ROUTE 19/20
Surf to the South and then to the West to get to Route 20. The
Pokemon that belong to the trainers here are around Level 35.

SEAFOAM ISLAND
At several points - using Strength - you will need to push boulders
down holes, and follow them down to block the path of the water.
In the depths of this island, you will come across the legendary
Pokemon, Articuno. You only have one chance to catch this one, so
save the game before you try! Use the ladders to reach the exit,
and onwards to the other part of Route 20, and then Cinnibar
Island.

CINNIBAR ISLAND
In the Research Lab here, give the fossil and old Amber to the
scientist to clone Pokemon (Jurassic Park, anyone?). Pokemon House
hides the Secret Key, needed to enter the gym.
Gym Leader - Blaine Growlithe L42,Ponyta L40,Rapidash L42,
Arcanine L47 TM38 - Fire Blast Volcano Badge

POKEMON HOUSE
The statues scattered around the house when examined reveal
switches, which open some doors and close others. On the third
floor, drop through the gap in the floor to reach the basement.
The key is in the top-left corner of the basement.

ROUTE 21
Surf Northwards from Cinnibar Island to Pallet Town. The area of
grass just before Pallet hides a Tangela.

VIRIDIAN CITY
The gym is now open! Make sure that you have your best Water,
Grass and Ice Pokemon with you, and make sure that they are at
Level 50 AT LEAST. Also, pack plenty of Potions, Revives, etc as
it's difficult to get out again.
Gym Leader - Giovanni Rhydon L50,Dugtrio L42,Rhyhorn L45,
             Nidoqueen L43,Nidoking L45 TM27 - Fissure
Earth Badge All Pokemon will obey you (YES!)

ROUTE 22
You meet your rival here (again!) His Pokemon are now at Levels 45
to 50. You won't get through the following route unless you have
all 8 badges, and a Pokemon with the Surf skill.

ROUTE 23
Simply head North, hunting for Pokemon in the grassy areas on the
way.

VICTORY ROAD
Use Strength to push boulders onto pressure plates to open the
doors. For one of the doors, you must push a boulder through a
hole in the floor, and jump in after it. Moltres is on the second
floor (don't forget to save the game before trying to catch it!).
Exit to...

INDIGO PLATEAU
Heal up your Pokemon here, and change over any you want to. Stock
up on Revives and Full Restores. Now enter the top door for...

Pokemon. Also, many of the item balls in here are, in fact,
Voltorbs.

UNKNOWN DUNGEON
You will find the ultra-rare, ultra-tough Mewtwo in the
bottom-right corner. Without the Master Ball, it is HARD to catch

TRADING EVOLUTIONS
The following can only evolve by trading over to another
version of Pokemon :
Graveler (to Golem), Machoke (to Machamp), Kadabra (to Alakazam),
Haunter (to Gengar)

MATURITY LEVELS
It is best to leave the Pokemon that need Stones to evolve until
they reach maturity e.g. :
Clefairy L48, Exeggcute L48, Gloom L52, Growlithe L50,
Jigglypuff L39, Nidorina L50, Nidorino L50, Pikachu L43,
Poliwhirl L49, Shellder L50, Staryu L47, Vulpix L42, Weepinbell L49

TRADING POKEMON THAT YOU WANT TO KEEP
If you want to keep your Haunter, or whatever, just trade back.
Your Pokedex will register the traded Pokemon, so will the one
belonging to the other trainer.

TMs Vs NATURAL SKILLS
TM versions of skills will always be weaker than the versions that
Pokemon will learn anyway, so if a Pokemon will learn a skill like
Thunder, for example, just wait, and save the TM for one that will
not normally learn that skill.

TRADED POKEMON
Pokemon that have been traded will earn more experience points, so
make sure that you will have the right badge to control it.

---Thanks----

I would like to thank Rich and Dennis. These two men have done a lot to make Supercheats
so popular and great. I thank them for making Supercheats and giving all of us the
ability to come here.

I would like to thank Nintendo and the creators of the pokemon series for making the
pokemon series. Always an enjoyable game to pick up and play.

I used the pokemon guides to make this.
I also used some guides from other sites for an idea for a format of the guide.

----Ending-----

This guide was made by myself and thanks to the ideas of some other guides.
