Hey guys, I'm playing pokemon red at the moment. I started off with Squirtle but somehow came across 4 Charmeleons in the burned out builfing in Cinnibar and a mew off the coast of cinnibar after flying straight from the safari zone. But the funny thing is, Mew turned into a ditto after me catching it. But can someone tell me where and how to catch Scyther? Ive been looking for hours.Thanks.

If Mew uses transform and is caught, the game automatically thinks it's a ditto, as the only mon that can be legitimately caught when transformed is a ditto.

annefranman52 answered:

I think you can only get them in the Safari zone, you just need to be lucky and thrown balls as soon as you find them.

whiplash234 answered:

True it is hard to catch them but I would throw some bait as your first move then some safari balls

dont throw bait, go for balls first.
Digimon Master 5.0 answered:

Throw rocks at them twice because the third time they will run away. This will make you have a better chance of catching them. Also use some food after the two rocks to destract them.

I know! I heard pressing B is a good idea, but i dunno.
a blind kid answered:

Dear lord, those Pok'emon took me FOREVER to finally catch. -____-
But, I can help you. I caught them both using this stragety: First, throw three baits, a rock, one bait, and then chuck balls at them like there was no tomorrow. If used correctly, you have a 10-15% chance of sucession. And remember to hold down+A after the Pok'emon is trapped in the ball.
P.S. In case you are wondering about Chansey, they are found in the Unknown Dungeon at high levels. They are a little rare though.

There is no special skill reequired. You just need to be lucky.

pokelover answered:

Throw food at them a couple times then throw rocks at them
NOTE:
It wont always work:..(

CrystalTitan1 answered:

Well it's mostly luck, but in Yellow there's a usefull little cheat, it works best with Ultra balls but will still work with any ball, just not quite as well, throw the ball, and the very moment the ball explodes, press and hold or press and keep tapping the B Button, it raises the chances of sucess into the 80-90% range.

Hope that little tidbit of info helped and worked for you,

fantasyfan611 answered:

Actually, I will tell you the trick that works almost everytime for two reasons.
1) because you def. Need help and so does evryone else
2) because I love contradicting everyone.

Never EVER throw bait because then you will almost always miss the pokemon
What you SHOULD do is throw 1 rock and then pokeballs.

Use the rare candy glitch on an hp up or a nugget then get your cash and boom buy a scyther
Guest answered:

Best way to get Pokemon in the game corner is to beat the elite 4 then buy coins if you don't have a nuff yet beat them again till you have a nuff coins

Guest answered:

1. Bait makes Pokemon harder to catch, but less likely to run.
2. Rocks make Pokemon easier to catch, but more likely to run.

It's just luck whether or not they run, no combination is guaranteed. It gets very annoying when Pokemon like Scyther and Kangaskhan run on the first turn, even after you've thrown a bait.

Safari Zone area 3 for Kangaskhan
Guest answered:

Best place to find them is safari zone area 3 and I noticed a pattern that after one runs there is a 25% chance it is in any given tile surrounding the one last spotted.

Tolle answered:

There are 2 ways to get Scyther
(And only 1 to get Kangaskhan)

The first method for getting Scyther (and Kangaskhan) is by going to Area 2 in the Safari Zone, where Kangaskhan has a 15 % encounter-rate and Scyther a 4 % encounter-rate. THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS PEOPLE!

There's a lot of suspicion to whether or not all the tricks work. Many of these methods have most likely only been tested once, when a person tried some button-mashing in the hopes, that it would increase the chances of success. It most likely doesn't! When it comes to Rock Throwing and Bait Throwing it can simply be explained with this: Throwing a rock increases the risk of the pokemon running, however, its catch-rate will be increased as well. It's the opposite with throwing bait, since this will increase the chance of the pokemon staying, but simultaneously, it will be harder to catch.

So in the end, the best chance you have at catching the pokemon are this:

Kangaskhan will almost always run after the 1st turn, sometimes the 2nd - therefore, the best tactic here is to throw that Safari Ball the second you see it.

Scyther usually stays a bit longer, so throwing one rock and then Safari Balls, is the best way to catch it.

The most secure way to catch Scyther is by getting the coins for it at the Rocket's Game Corner. Obtaining the money is easiest if you have a high-levelled Mewtwo with "Pay Day" [TM16] (OBS: The TM must be taught on a Red og Blue version, since Mewtwo can't learn it on the Pokemon Yellow edition. The Pay Day move has 20 PP, so if your Mewtwo is around level 75, it will earn you roughly 5000 yen more per Elite Four run. So basically, take your A-team and a Mewtwo with "Pay Day" to the Elite Four and do this until you have enough money to buy Scyther for coins (6500 coins = 130,000 yen).

Tips regarding the matter:
The price for Scyther on the Pokemon Red version is only 5500.
Defeating the Elite Four is said to be easier on Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Red, so it should be considered done on these, if the desired pokemon is purchasable in said game.
Other hard-to-catch pokemon like Pinsir, Tangela and Taurus, are catchable in the Safari Zone as well. Save your game once inside, then search for your desired pokemon. If you are unable to catch one before the time runs out, restart your game and start anew without using more money. Remember to save once you cattch one of your pokemon!

Please thumb this up, so we can get all the uncertain methods downwards. This is the way to go - based on in-game mechanics and observations.

Best answer, but both Kangaskhan and Scyther can and are most likely caught by throwing poke balls. Both Pokémon required nearly 30 encounters before getting lucky enough that they were caught. Same with Tangela and Pinser. Dragonair you should throw one rock, but otherwise just chuck pokeballs and be patient. Again nearly 30 encounters with each Pokémon before you get lucky.
anzacbackwards answered:

Well you could just use this glitch method if you're keen to start again.get a abra that knows teleport OR a Pokemon that knows fly. Go to the place where nugget bridge is located.defeat everyone EXCEPT the guy in the grass to the left of the bridge AND the girl at the end closest to bills grandfathers house who uses cute pokemon. Do the Mew glitch but use the guy to the left of the bridge as the runaway person and use the cute trainer as the fighter.
