Question for Pokemon Gold

I have a lot of questions. Please answer any that you can.

1). How do I get past the guy on the dock?
2). How can I catch a poliwag?
3). I encountered a Miltank and a Taurus(different times) how come I couldn't catch either? They had like 1 health (the Taurus was confused) I used a great ball and like 3 pokeballs.
4). What should I use against the Steel Pokemon. I know how to deal with Magnemite (the 1st pokemon) but the steelix I couldn't beat. Also, does she have any pokemon after that?

1) The guy on the dock? You must mean the sailor. Get an SS Ticket after beating the Elite Four and he'll move.

2) Go to Silver Cave, after beating all Kanto/Johto gyms and fish or walk at night and you can catch Poliwag, or trade over.

3) They are some of the hardest pokemon to catch. It gets very frustrating.

Try waiting til you get a masterball from Elm and then duplicate it 5 times, so you can catch Miltank and Tauros easily.

4) Use a fire pokemon because they're the most effective against steal. For the magnemite, use a rock pokemon like geodude or graveler and use ground moves. For Steelix, use a flame pokemon.

1. I don't know what dock you are talking about.

2.You can catch a Poliwag by either surfing or fishing with a good or super rod in water.

3.Yeah, Miltank/Tauros are hard to capture.

I suggest to use a Pokemon with poison attacks to poison it or put it to sleep and keep chucking Pokeballs at them or use the heavy balls you can get from Kurt.

I captured each of them by using Scizor's false swipe and Gengar's hypnosis with a pokeball.

4.Jasmine has two Magnemites and one Steelix.

Against the two Magnemite use Geodude's magnitude or a fire attack. Against Steelix use a fire or water pokemon.

Quilava/Croconaw are great for beating him.

See Ya!

I'm don't really know the exact way to beat the steelix, but what I did is just use my Buterfree and Drowzee to make it sleep and then use my strogest pokemons to try to lower its HP.

Though, It did take a long time and many attempts, and I had lots of Potions and Revives in my item pocket. And yes, after the steelix, there is a level 30 magnemite.

I hope this helps.
