Trading Problem

So I have two versions of Gold. In one, my starter is Chikorita. In the other, Cyndaquil. My Chikorita LV. 14 can't be the first gym, so I want to trade my Cyndaquil LV. 9 over and raise it. I have 4 Pokemon in my version with Chikorita and 2 in the other. I have a link cable, but my Chikorita versoin keeps on saying, "Your friend is not ready..." I checked the connection and everything. WHY CAN'T I TRADE?!?

You might have to beat the elite four first and then try to trade again

Tou have to beat the first two gyms in order to trade.

In order to trade you will need you link cable, 2 gameboys for both gold versions connect your link cable to them and trade but you can only trade on both gold versions after you get to ecruteak city, then you can beging to trade. No need for the elite 4.
