What do I do after I give elm the egg ?

Baically all you do is walk around and earn your badges. Then when you get enough, i think it's three, he'll call you and then you pick up the egg and walk with it till it hatches. Then you can either keep it or take it to Elm and show him. It's up to you.
After you beat Falkner you will get a call from the prof.
Go to the pokemon canter and speak to the dude in the glasses, he will give you back the egg and it will hatch into Togepi.
Then show it to the prof.
I believe he will give you an everstone !
You don't really "give" him the egg. You carry it with you, and it hatches. Then there is some sequence in the game where you talk to him on the phone and he finds out that the egg has hatched. Just show it to him. I think he will give you an Everstone, but I haven't played the game in a long time.
Just walk around and continue the game.
After beating Falkner, you'll receive the egg from Professor's aide.
