First, catch abra using a fast ball. Next, go to the goldenrod city and buy the TM's that has fire punch, ice punch, and electric punch. Then make abra learn all of the TM you just bought. This will let you defeat many types of pokemon. I did this and i have a lvl 73 kadabra and defeating lvl 40's like they were just born.
