Sport Compact League

Welcome to the Sport Compact League - a series of 6 Section Events with a total of 94 Races (at the time that this was written - bearing in mind that as they add New Tracks, the Bonus Races for each Section Event will expand).

This is the first league you'll experience after the first single-lap race in Prague -- the Sport Compact League -- and specifically the Modern Sport Compact Section of the Sport Compact League if we are being particular. Are you excited? Me too!

You may have noticed that after you ran the Introduction race -- which you were probably not meant to win but perhaps you did? Well, either way, after you ran that the tutorial system sort of kicks into full gear, and the Modern Sport Compact Section of the Sport Compact League is a big part of the tutorial system.

BEFORE you go any farther there is something you should be made aware of: you are NOT actually required to complete all of the races in the Modern Sport Compact Section in one go - but you can. Basically while the tutorial system tells you a lot about the game, one thing it does not tell you is that you can quit racing from the second summary screen following each race!

So bear that in mind won't you?

After completing the Introduction Race and the first few official races in the Sb-Compact Series, you will unlock the following game Achievements:

• "Welcome to Forza Motorsport" (5G) Complete the very first race.

• "Start Your Engine (5G) Reach Driver Level 1.

• "My Kind of Car" (5G) Reach Affinity Level 1 with any Car Manufacturer.

• "Gold Medalist" (5G) Earn 5 Gold Medals in Career Races.

• "Patron of the Arts (0G) Like a Livery, Tune Setup, or Vinyl Group.

Now the last one you will unlock if you chose a custom design from the catalog you are presented with when you chose your first car for the first actual league race -- the car you drove in the first race was a loaner mind you -- so hopefully you did that just to knock that rather easy one out.

As you can see you have barely started the game and already you are 20G up on the lot!

After you have completed the races that are required for the Modern Sport Compact Section -- there are a total of 5 races that are part of that Section Series, with 9 Bonus Races (at the time this was written in April 2014 -- and bearing in mind that with the addition of new Cars or Tracks Turn 10 often adds additional races to the Bonus Race Sets).

The Sport Compact League consists of the following Race Sections, with each Section having its own set of races. At the risk of repeating oneself you should be aware that while the targeted races that are required for completing a Section and thus its championship are fixed, the Bonus Races are not. Turn 10 will add additional races to each section, or not, with additions to the game. Something you should be aware of in case the numbers and list below are off...

Bear in mind that your primary objective is to complete the races for the league championship, returning later to complete the Bonus Races. So focus on the ones that are required for the series' first!

The car you will be using is the one you chose as your car when you were offered the selection - that car can be used throughout the series.

First Series Race at Bernese Alps

I. Modern Sport Compact

We did not see a lot of Cars configured for racing in the Modern Sport Compact style, not because there was a shortage of cars in that league, but because racing a modern sport compact -- at least when I was a teen -- was a choice that could only be made by racers with a lot of money to burn. That did not describe the group I hung with, I can tell you that...

That is not to say that there were not people among my peer group that would not have loved to do that - take their modern sport compact and race it - even semi-pro, it was a fantasy that was not all that rare among my mates and, this might surprise you, their girlfriends!

I knew a couple of guys who owned Volkswagen Golfs that would have applied, and a girl who owned a BMW 1 Series because her parents were both lawyers and that was the car she asked for just before she turned 16. But to have done to those rides what they would have had to be modified for? Man that was never going to happen!

Still we can dream - and thanks to FM5 we can see what it might have been like...

So yeah, this Section includes a total of 14 races between its championship races and bonus races.

• Bernese Alps (1 of 5)

Once you have completed the first five races that are the required races for the championship you will have unlocked the Achievement "Gold Medalist" (5G) Earn 5 Gold Medals in Career Races[/strong] assuming that you managed to earn a gold medal in all five, which really you should have been able to manage.

If not then go ahead and re-race them to get that - you want to always have earned a gold medal in each of the primary races as well as the bonus races, since there is an entire set of Achievements related to that pursuit.

II. Early Sport Compact

At the start of this race league, after the glowing description delivered by Jeremy, you are popped into the car purchase screen because -- naturally -- this is a new race series, featuring a new class of car, so you cannot continue to use the one you bought for the previous section, right? Right!

Your choices here also introduce you to the suggestion system that is in play throughout the game, in that at the beginning of the listing are four Cars that the game "recommends" that you use for the races in this section, while there are also other cars that are eligible that you can also choose from.

Wrapping up the Championship in Prague

The second League for the official Forza 5 2014/2015 Racing Season, The Sport League brings together a well structured set of Tracks that have been specifically configured for the Early Sports Compact style of racing car - a type of car that while certainly unique in terms of racing style, also happens to be the sort of car that all of us could afford, which is no small matter considering the usual wall that represents the cost of investing in this hobby.

Now I am sure that your parents or your girlfriend / wife would probably not be thrilled to learn that when you made the decision to purchase that brand new Sport Compact it was with racing in mind. And when I was a teen you could always tell which Cars in the Sport Compact range had been purchased for racing by the discreet but very obvious modifications that their new owners made -- including four-way harnesses in place of the standard seat belts, and a floor-mounted fire extinguisher on the passenger side.

For the truly serious racers -- the ones who intended to take their Cars on to Tracks and compete for prize money and trophies on the weekends, there were some not so discrete mod's as well -- like the socket-based head lamp and tail lamp systems that permitted the driver to remove both and replace them with a flat metal cover. But the roll-cage and wielding the doors shut, now those were pretty obvious hints as to what the car was intended to be used for other than daily commuting. Just saying :)

The Cars that are tagged (DLC) require you to spend real-world money purchasing them from the Marketplace in order to obtain them, while the ones not so marked can be bought for in-game money. The one that is marked (FREE) is, well, FREE! And since we don't have a lot of money right now, and as it happens to be from Honda, which is one of the Japanese makers that is high on the list for choosing for the purposes of Affinity, well, it was a no-brainer for me!

III. Production Rally

Another new section means buying a new car - and in this case, thanks to Richard's wonderful and even historic Introduction, we know that the car we are choosing is a rally evo! We get to choose from the following list - recommended rides first!

Which car you choose comes down to the one you like best, or the one you feel like you will like driving the best. Or, if you are thinking of the whole Affinity issue, which one makes the most sense for that... Personally if I were judging these by the Affinity issue, my choices would be narrowed in ohttp://www.supercheats.com/forza-motorsport-5/walkthrough/sport-compact-leaguen Ford, Subaru, then Mitsubishi and in that order.

If pushed I would choose the Ford - even though I like the Subaru line a little better. The reason for that is simply that there will be a lot more opportunities to run with a Ford as opposed to a Subaru. Same for the Mitsubishi really, so there you go.

In completing this section you will have unlocked the Achievement "Semi Pro" (10G) Reach Driver Level 5 and "Gold Digger" (10G) Earn 20 Gold Medals in Career races. You will also have unlocked the Achievement "Some Say..." (0G) Beat Stig's Digital Cousin.

IV. Modern FWD Hot Hatch

Jeremy gives us an Introduction to the Hot Hatch that suggests that these Cars are far more than the out-of-high-school first car that a lot of people think of them as... And you know he might be right about these!

Now the good news here is that you already have a car to drive for this section thanks to the FREE Hyundai Veloster Turbo that Turn 10 gave away with Christmas Livery on it! Chances are you did not unlock any Achievements for this section, since it comes in the middle of the medals and driver levels. That's OK though because you will in the next section.

V. Early Hot Hatch

I rather like the enthusiasm to which Richard arrives at the party - and besides any time a Top Gear host compares a car to a pin-up, well...

For this one we have to purchase a new ride, and while the choice includes a Freebie, there are others you might want too... For this one we have the standard four recommended rides first, and then the others:

James seems to be more precise in the Cars that he likes -- and clearly he likes the Mini class of cars, at least that is the impression that he gives in this intro.
