Introduction

Final Fantasy 7 is one of the greatest Final Fantasies ever made. It takes place on Earth, but the game never mentions that. They refer to the world as The Planet. The story starts out in a city called Midgar. Midgar is a city that uses what is called Mako Energy to supply electricity, thanks to the Shinra Electric Company. People living in Midgar have been living comfortable lives, but only a few were aware of the danger Mako Energy truly is to the Planet. A group called AVALANCHE is against Shinra's use of Mako Energy because of it's effects. Mako Energy comes straight from the Planet and is slowly sucking the Planet's life away. President Shinra of the Shinra ELectric Company is looking for the Promised Land, a land known only by the Cetra, or Ancients. It is said that vast amounts of Mako Energy is there. The main character, Cloud, is a former member of SOLDIER, Shinra's elite mercernary force, who decided to join AVALANCHE in order to make some money. In truth, Cloud really doesn't care about the Planet. The story revolves around saving the world from some sort of tragic event. Later in the story, the plot becomes deeper, involving the mysterious Ancients, or Cetra, and a powerful swordsman named Sephiroth.

Graphics

The above score is rated based on the age of the game, so it is rated as if this were a review from the past. Since this game came out a long time ago, and the fact that it is on the Playstation, the graphics are not amazing. However, at the time it was made, those graphics were the pinnacle of gaming. Final Fantasy VII had the most realistic graphics at the time. Though the people may be pixelated and movements not fluid, for the time, it was amazing. Not to mention that the gameplay and storyline more than make up for the lack of image quality. Even if Final Fantasy VII were to be remade for a system like the Playstation 3, the game itself would still not change. Graphics may be cool, but the whole gaming package is what truly matters, and Final Fantasy VII is a wonderful representation of this fact.

Sound

Final Fantasy music is well-renowned. All Final Fantasy music is great, and Final Fantasy VII's is no different. Background music has a huge impact on the whole gaming experience. It allows the player to know the emotions of the scene, or the intensity of the battle. Final Fantasy VII keeps true to this. The game also still has the classic Final Fantasy tunes, like the fanfare song played when you win a battle. Sound effects are also amazing. The effects are fluid with actions. Sound is always a big factor in games, especially a Final Fantasy game. This one delivers in every way.

Gameplay

All Final Fantasies have outstanding gameplay, and Final Fantasy VII has to have the best gameplay of all. The battle system is the same as the previous FInal Fantasies, a simple time-based battle. Magic and stat enhancers, however, are totally unique. Final Fantasy VII introduces Materia, small, colored stones produced by the Planet. These stones are the basis of all magic. Weapons have Materia slots, in which the user puts Materia in, to allow that character to have a specific ability, or use a certain type of magic. The storyline is also terrific. With unending mysteries and deep plots, including secrets of Cloud's unknown past, will keep any gamer on edge.

Lastability

Unless you play for hours and hours on end, there is no way anyone can beat this game in a week. Final Fantasy VII is very long. This is not the monotonous type of long, but a challenging, well-developed story. The game cannot be classified as easy or hard, since it is a little bit of both. The lastability of this game can be easily pointed out by the fact that Final Fantasy VII is a three-disc game. Each disc transfers fluidly into the next, so it is not like the storyline changes completely from disc to disc. Basically, Final Fantasy VII is a long, yet fun, game.

Overall

Many series of games usually start to fail after having two or three games in the series, but Final Fantasy has to be the one series that defies this fact. Through the years, gamers have always enjoyed Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy VII delivers this satisfaction to all gamers, including those new to the series. This game is a must-have for any gamer enthusiast. Though some may say it is outdated, the fact that there are Final Fantasies branched off of this one says otherwise. If a game made more than tem years ago had a prequel and sequel made somewhat recently, that has to speak wonders about how great the original game truly is. Final Fantasy VII is sure to be one of the all-time greatest games in video game history.
