Village Grocer Special Orders (2012)

Latest update by CMBF on Jul 5th 2013
In the Fall of 2012 a new type of Mission/Quest was added to Farmville 2 in the form of the Village Grocer Special Order Missions - the first permanent Mission to be added to the game and a new approach to stimulating players to pursue crop and craft-based quests with an eye towards illustrating the importance not just of growing crops of all types, but how the craft-based actions in the game can be used to enhance the value of those crops and the resources that they produce.

It is thought that the Special Order series of missions was added for a second reason, and that is to provide players of lower levels with some quests to work on when they have none due to the way that the mission and quest system in the game is overly focused upon the level of the farm. And it really is if you think about it...

In Summer 2013 the new County Fair Missions and Quests were added to the game, but players who were under Level 20 were unable to participate in them, which I probably do not have to point out was not a well-received situation... When they complained, a post to one of the chat boards suggested that they work hard on the Village Grocer Special Orders Missions as a way to gain the levels that they need to be eligible for the County Fair series while at the same time obtain some interesting decorations and useful resources for their farm - and if you think about that for a moment it is actually good advice.

The Story

The Village Grocer in FarmVille (there is actually a minority of players in the game who are convinced that the fictional village of Farmville is actually based upon the real-world town of Farmville, Virginia) is named Cornelius, and he is a very friendly even gregarious bloke who factors large in a number of missions and quests, but this time around he shows up on your farm and explains his quest...

The Events of the Original Quest
His market truck has a break down in the road next to your farm and Cornelius is stranded - but as it turns out he views that situation as serendipity - because it allows him to “discover” your farm!

Cornelius asks you to repair his truck - which is the primary core for the start of this mission - but to do that you will need to gather specific resources before the generous timer runs out:

Part I: The Cornelius Mission

  • Fix Cornelius's Truck
  • Collect 5 Traffic Cones (Feed Post)
  • Craft 8 Lemonades

Part II: Fix Cornelius's Truck

  • Wood Planks x8 (Feed Post)
  • Fire Extinguishers x8 (Direct Request)
  • Toolboxes x8 (Direct Request)

Completing Part II is a required step in order to complete Part I of this mission series, and once you have obtained all of the items that are required to complete Part II, you will also need to seek out the assistance of three of your friends/neighbors in order to actually help repair the Truck (do the wrenching as it were).

Mission Reward: 40XP and 2,500 Farm Coins.

The Events After the Original Quest Expired
The original quest and its timers were only active for around a month back in Fall of 2012 when the mission was first introduced to the game, but as this is a permanent quest-granting mission and as it was intended to remain in the game even for players who did not found their farm until AFTER the proper mission time ended, a new system was added to place the mission and its quests in the game.

In place of the accident now Cornelius will visit your farm, tell you about his special orders requirements, and set up the order board on a post near the road and beside your Farm Market Stall.

The Special Orders Quests

These are a repeating series of Special Orders that pay off in the same set of rewards/resources, but thanks to the rather intensive and unique nature of the series (each random set of quests is only valid for 24 hours, at which time it is replaced with the next random set of quests) the player will often find that they are only able to complete a portion of the mission each day rather than the entire three-quest set.

In the event that you complete all three of the day's quests the mission will temporarily end with Cornelius driving up to your farm in his truck and collecting the order, and the clip board on the post then changing to a clock counter that counts down to the end of the original 24-hour timer for that day.

At the end of the 24-hours, whether you have completed all or just some of the quests for the day's mission, Cornelius will drive up with the next day's order (three new random quests) and post them to the board, and you begin the process anew from there.

The Random Quests of the Daily Mission
The Mission each day consists of three random quests, and rarely ever will these repeat close enough together for you to remark that you just did that!

The quests take a variety of forms, a selection of which includes the following quests that I have actually received as part of the daily mission - to give you an idea of the variety and intensity you can expect:

Sample I - Sell Quest: Fruit
- Sell 3 Apricots

The Fruits “Sell Quest” is ALWAYS Level-appropriate - that is to say you will never be asked to sell a fruit from a tree type that you cannot actually obtain in the game, right now, at your present level. The example above - Sell 3 Apricots - would be for a very advanced player, since it requires that the farm expansion section containing the Apricot Tree must have been unlocked, which requires you to be at or past Level 29, so you should get the idea here. The quests are always within your reach.

Sample II - Sell Quest: Crop
- Sell 25 Blackberries

The Crops “Sell Quest” is ALWAYS Level-appropriate - that is to say you will never be asked to sell a vegetable or berry from a crop type that you cannot actually obtain in the game, right now, at your present level. The example above - Sell 25 Blackberries - would be for a very advanced player, since it requires that the farm seed bank include the Blackberry Seed, which is only available after the player has reached Level 24, whereupon they can then be purchased from the Farm Market for 75 Farm Coins per crop square.

Sample III - Sell Quest: Crafted Goods
- Sell 1 Broccoli Quiche

The Crafted Goods “Sell Quest” is ALWAYS Level-appropriate - that is to say you will never be asked to sell a crafted good of a type that you cannot actually craft or requiring ingredients and resources that you cannot actually obtain in the game, right now, at your present level.

The example above - Sell 1 Broccoli Quiche - would be for a very advanced player, since it requires that the farm seed bank include the Broccoli Seed, which is only available after the player has reached Level 16, whereupon they can then be purchased from the Farm Market for 45 Farm Coins per crop square.

In addition to the Broccoli the player will need to be able to craft two types of Quiche, which requires that you be able to craft the Cheese Quiche and then combine that with Broccoli to make Brocolli Quiche, both of which require Level 16.

The Mission Rewards

The first time through the Mission you will not know what the rewards are, since they are shown, on the rewards and progress sub-page, as their silhouettes, which can be a bit misleading... The following rewards, in the order that they are unlocked and received, are:

  • Level 1 Reward: Mosaic Bench
  • Level 2 Reward: Water Resource Units 5x Bucket
  • Level 3 Reward: Fertilizer 10x Pack
  • Level 4 Reward: Mosaic Crackellage
  • Level 5 Reward: Sugar 5x Pack
  • Level 6 Reward: Mosaic Planter
  • Level 7 Reward: Baby Bottles 2x Pack
  • Level 8 Reward: Speed Grow 2x Pack
  • Level 9 Reward: Mosaic Fountain

Once you have completed the entire cycle of quests it simply reloads from the start and you begin again, with the Mosaic Bench. This should provide nearly endless opportunity to advance through a variety of quests since they change and advance with each new level you achieve.

Sharing Grocer Points

In addition to obtaining Grocer Points for each of the three quests in the Daily Grocer Special Order Mission, when you complete each quest and turn it in (or all three quests and turn them in at the same time) you are presented with the opportunity to share Grocer Points with your mates via a Wall Feed Post - note that this does NOT deduct any points from YOUR reward so why not go ahead and do it, since it allows your mates to pick up a few free Grocer Points by clicking on the Feed Post, and you can do the same for their Feed Posts.
