The Mission & Quest Notation Explained

Missions and Quests make up the lion's share of what you will be doing when you play this game, and as such it was necessary to devise a system for their notation in this guide.

Once we did that, we thought you might find it useful for us to share with you the logic behind that system so that you are in the know -- know the secret -- are among the few so privileged to see the man behind the curtain making those sounds and known as Oz... Ozmandius... The Big O!

Mission or Quest?

The terms are not interchangeable... Or are they?

Seriously though we refer to the primary activities in the game as Quests -- hence the notation system for the guide with alpha-numeric entries that start with "Q" followed by a number, the "Q" being Quest, and the number being the number for that specific Q.

You will find though that when a Q has multiple parts, we then refer to it as a Mission. So hey, the simple translation is that a Q with several parts is really a Mission, though we call it a Q anyway because why? Because we are trying to be consistent -- and everybody knows that consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, and we certainly have a little mind, mind you!

The WTG Structure

The Unofficial Walkthrough and Guide to Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff is structured in sections, each of which is created using some sort of twisted logic that only we understand, but that we are nonetheless going to attempt to explain to you anyway.

If you look at the menu on the right, and specifically the subsection labeled "Walkthrough" you will note that each section has a unique identifying code as well as a unique sometimes identifying name. For example the first actual section of the Walkthrough is titled "Part I:Prologue & Tutorial" as it actually contains the guide portion for the Prologue and the first Part of the game!

Its contents basically are what the title says, it being the first section of the WTG and thus pretty easy to make the contents match the title, we are just saying...

As the guide grows though, that whole title matching the contents will not be so literal, but we are sure you will figure all that out yourself.

In each of the sections there are quests -- or Q as we like to call them -- the thing is you will be happy to learn that our fear of hobgoblins has caused us to literally chart and track the Q by assigning each unique Q its own Q Number!

That is a good thing, because it means you can ask a question about a Q and we can refer to a Q by its Q number and it won't matter what section or sub-section of the guide you are using because the Q number is unique and carried forward incrementally, and aren't numbers so totally cool that way?!

Hey, you were probably wondering why the early Q numbers start with leading zeros right? Well that is why! Wait, what do you mean "What is Why?" We said THAT is Why!

No, seriously, really.

Fine! The reason that the early Qs start with leading zeroes is mostly due to our fear of hobgoblins as explained elsewhere. Well that and it makes them look much nicer when they appear as lists.

Plus we happen to know that Hermione Granger would approve.

Why it Takes So Long

Finally there is the issue of why Progress in the guide can sometimes appear to take a long time...

The reasons it takes a long time are many -- but we thought you would appreciate the primary reasons for this, which we list below in no particular order:

.1. It takes so long because we are writing the guide as we play the game.

2. (Related to 1) It takes so long because we insist on accuracy and not stealing from other people - which means that the information that appears in THIS guide was not taken from some OTHER guide of dubious quality...

Seriously that's a problem today we hear, but it is never EVER a problem you will experience in an Unofficial SuperCheats Guide. Not just because we have pride mind you, but because we have ethics, which while it is related to price has nothing to do with goblins OR hobgoblins. Just saying.

3. We find that writing the guide as we play the game helps to keep it focused on what really matters to the player rather than simply filling up pages of text.

In Summary

The Quest System and our coverage of it in this guide is the very heart of the game, but there are also other hearts... Yeah, smaller hearts... Hearts you can only hear if you listen carefully...

Those little bitty but oh-so-adorable hearts include the following:

1. The "We've been gamers for nearly 40 years" heart.

2. The "We love to share the secrets we have learned" heart.

3. The "There is a better way to do that" hearts.

Oh, there are more, lots more, but we can't share them with you right now - there is a hobgoblin trying to get the tea tin open and we just filled it with a new box of Billy Tea, so we have to get the Nerf Gun and deal with this right NOW.
