Part IV: A Pirate's Life

Thank you for printing this page from www.SuperCheats.com. Remember to come back to check for updates to this guide and much more content for Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff

Last Updated:

Please bear in mind that this is a new game, and a new guide - we are writing this guide as we play the game, so the newest section of the guide represents the place we are actually at in the game. As omniscience is not one of the skills with which we are gifted, we can only include the content that we have experienced ourselves.

Yes, we are aware that there are other objects, Outfits, missions, quests, and events that exist in the game, and we have not intentionally left out those contents in the game guide - we just have not experienced them, and as a result, we don't include them here because this guide is written from facts.

Thanks for your patience as we proceed in creating the Unofficial SuperCheats Guide to Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff!

You have been working your way through a series of character unlock Challenges, with part of the goal being to populate your town, and part to build your town. At this point you should have the following Characters fully unlocked and added to your game:

  • Peter Griffin

  • Lois Griffin

  • Chris Griffin

  • Glenn Quagmire

  • Joe Swanson

  • Bonnie Swanson

  • Mort Goldman

  • Bruce

  • Jerome

  • Mr. Herbert

In addition to the above, if you opted to spend some Clams, you may also have the following Characters:

  • Consuela

  • Buzz Killington

  • Jake Tucker

  • Brain Damaged Horse

Before we continue bear in mind that the optional paid Characters are not as out of reach now as they were when the game first launched thanks to the changes to the FaceSpace app in the game that created character and costume collection rewards -- Clams!

If you are patient, and you have been Farming neighbors for the odd Clam there, when you combine that with the Clams from specific missions and tasks, and the collection rewards, you can easily obtain some of the optional Characters, though you might want to consider giving priority to Builders first?

Another issue that you will want to see to (if you have not already done so) is that all of the land expansion lots are unlocked and added to the game for the districts already unlocked prior to heading into a new district since having those available gives you more options for placing Buildings and structures.

And of course there is the notion that it is better not to be overwhelmed by too much left undone.

The trick though to expanding your abilities to expand your town is to take advantage of the various special deals that appear to be intended as a regular feature in the game. So far there has been a few types of events - time-limited events like the fair that added special objects and an outfit to the game, and a weekend during which all Builder upgrades were half-off as well as the timers for all Buildings.

So if you are patient you can make your Clams go a lot farther by strategically waiting for special deals, tough there is no way to know how long you may actually have to wait....

A Pirate's Life for Peter

This is the Mission that opens up the next District in the game -- Pirate's Cove! Of course it is not simply the opening that is the point of all this, but the Missions and the Quests and their Tasks that make up the entire process.

Peter wants to become a pirate! So help him get started by completing the following Tasks:

1. Enter Pirate's Cove (Instant)

2. Clear a Land Expansion Block (8h / $6,500)

3. Repair Quahog Wharf (8h @ $4,500 Cost)

Completing this Mission adds the new district and awards you with $250 and 170 XP.

A Pirate's Life for Peter Pt. 4

The next new Mission features Peter. And swords. And maybe swordfighting? It could happen! Herbert offers to train Peter like he used to train the pirates when they were cabin boys.... So there you go, training by an expert! Complete the following Task:

Taste the Rapier (6h) $65 and 45 XP.

Completing this Mission awards you with $250 and 170 XP

A Pirate's Life for Peter Pt. 5

This new theme is rapidly working its way towards a conclusion - so that being the case it is now time for you to help Peter make a new Pirate Outfit! Along the way that new outfit will also help to complete the following Tasks:

1. Create Long John Peter Outfit (Collect Resources)

2. Have Long John Peter Pillage & Plunder!

Create the Long John Peter Outfit

Either head over to Al Harrington's Outfits Shop or tap the Mission/Quest Button/Icon on the Quest and Mission Finder and then collect the following resources:

  1. Treasure Map: Collect x3 Treasure Maps (Seamus Task / Meg Task / Quahog Wharf)

  2. Feathers: Collect x9 Feathers (Jerome Task / Meg Task / Speedo Quagmire Task)

  3. Swords: Collect x5 Swords (Joe Task / Peter Task)

It should be noted that the fifth Quest in this type of Mission is the sweet spot in terms of dealing with an infestation of the town. The same basic mechanics applied to Joe and his "Lost Boys" Mission.

After you finish collecting the resources for the Long John Peter Outfit you will then need to complete the second half of the Mission which requires the following Task:

Pillage & Plunder (4h) $50 and 30 XP.

Completing this Mission awards you with $250 and 170 XP.

Notes: The deeper into the game we travel the more difficult it becomes to obtain the resources that are required both for unlocking new Characters and unlocking new Outfits, and this one is no exception to that rule! Just be patient, try not to fixate on the process, and take your Progress as it comes!

Clear All Pirates (8 of 8)

Completing this Task also awards you with 15 Clams and 255 XP.

Helpful Hint #09

The Ongoing Challenge of Maintaining Your Revenue Stream - Or Gettin' Coin Baby!

There are certain realities that can not be escaped in games of this sort and they each directly apply to the matter of Farming Coin. Let's examine them now:

I. Among the most basic premise in creating a Freemium game and, in particular a Freemium Grinder in the City-Building genre, is the need to create a fair and balanced game with a primary story line filled with missions and quests that are independant of the Premium side of the game play mechanics. Otherwise the gamer will, upon detecting that lack of balance will stop playing and walk away.

II. Creating a game in the Freemium category and then fudging its structure to force the player to spend money in order to Progress will naturally generate all sorts of anger and resentment from the players, who will not be shy about telling their mates and anyone else who will listen what a raw deal that is, and how greedy the studio is, and many other true but unflattering facts that will cause the player base - both the current and potential future player base - to walk away and not play.

III. No matter how strong a game studio feels the urge to profit from the sale of premium items and currency in their games, if it intends to retain the Freemium classification and it wishes to have a game in which the players who principally desire to experience the free side of the whole Freemium content are happy, then the game must remain well balanced and playable for free.

IV. The studio behind the typical Freemium game IS going to add objects, items, Characters, and structures of a sort that is highly desirable to the average player, and they are going to charge money for access to the same because why? Because that is how the truly good and well-balanced games of this sort function!

That being the case the condition known as Premium Resistance will always exist, with the player trying to obtain as much entertainment and enjoyment as possible while spending as little money as possible, and the studio trying to inject as much entertainment and enjoyment as possible while maximizing the variety of Premium content.

That is the nature of this class of game and largely why the mechanism is desired on both sides of that imaginary fence. In other words, all is as it should be!

V. There are plenty of bad Freemium games, and a surplus of badly designed ones as well - this is not one of them.

Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff has joined its cousin The Simpsons: Tapped Out as a prime example of the well-balanced Freemium Grinder in the City Building genre, and its presence and growing popularity will be sufficient to keep the studio honest and support more content, more entertainment, and more enjoyment as a natural part of the process.

That being the case, and with the game remaining perfectly balanced, it falls to the player to efficiently device methods for unlocking and obtaining a reliable revenue stream for access to the free currency in the game because a constant flow of Coin is key to their success.

In that light we have put together a perfect example of how to generate a revenue stream for you, which you can use as the basis of your own plan, being suitable to full customization by you for your game.

Getting You Started

A detailed Report and guide can thus be found in the section of our guide whose title is "Optimal Coin Farming" which is found in the first part of the guide, above the Walkthrough Section under the Table of Contents block.

This Introduction is simply intended to introduce you to the notion and direct you there, as that section of the guide is simply too large to include as a subsection of the Walkthrough!

So when you are ready, click on the link for the section titled "Optimal Coin Farming" in the block nicely located between the headings TABLE OF CONTENTS and WALKTHROUGH and start reading.

Once you read through that Mini-Guide, you can begin by using the guide as it is written at first, and then modifying it to best suit your needs, as needed. We not only expect you to do just that, we encourage you to!

Gold Digger Island

This new Mission line and its quests bring several things to the new District - there is the existence of Gold Digger Island, and the hint that it may contain Treasures... Well sort of. I mean sexy girls are a treasure of sorts, but then when you embrace the pun -- Gold Digger Island? Ohh, bad! Very bad!

Gold Digger Island Pt. 1 (Part 1 of 2)

Quagmire wants to score chicks at a mystical place -- Gold Digger Island. To make that happen or at least get it started, you will need to complete the following Task:

Build the Yacht Club Building ($2,500 with a 16h build timer)

WARNING: The Numbering inside the Quest system for the game is off. The internal numbers repeat, but you can safely ignore that because we will keep the external count accurate. That being the case, if or when you feel the need to comment about a quest, please use the external numbers (the ones that lead each Quest and Mission starting with "Q" followed by their three-digit number) when commenting or corresponding.

Not sure how this happened but it happened at TinyCo, not here. As you can see the first part of the Mission (listed above) covered building the Yacht Club - but when that is completed we are presented with the next part which is also labeled Pt. 1. So since the wonderful Wizards behind this game are omniscient and cannot be wrong, we decided to go with it!

We just wanted you to know why the structures in the title for this is oddly the same while at the same time we have retained the numbering from the game...

Gold Digger Island Pt. 1 (Part 2 of 2)

Quagmire is determined to sneak onto Gold Digger Island by posing as a naval officer... The thing is in order to complete this Mission you must have Quagmire's Navy Outfit, which is appropriately enough called "Navy Quagmire" and that means working the Tasks to complete it.

For the record this is the required resource pool in order to complete this Outfit:

Navy Quagmire Outfit

Quagmire will commit to any organization whose motto includes "Don't Tell". The required resources for this Outfit are:

  • x5 Poncy Hat - Clearing Pirates / Seamus Sea Shanty Task / Yacht Club / Lobster Shanty.

  • x5 Bottles of Beer - Drunken Clam and Clam-related Tasks for various Characters.

  • x5 Playboy Magazine "Pinups" - Seamus Cartwheels / Joe Skeet Shooting.

  • x5 Fancy Pants - Bruce Flyers / Peter Scarf Trick / Madeleine's Boutique.

As noted above the listed Characters then Buildings are the source for these resources. If you need extra guidance on the collection of resources check out the Resources Mini-Guide in the Reference Section of our guide!

Completing this part of the Mission will also award you $250 and 170 XP.

Another Note: You should bear in mind that the likelihood of you actually completing the collection of the resources required to complete the building of this outfit are slim-to-cha!-Right?! Just saying you should be prepared to carry this Mission forward to the next District with you is all...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Gold Digger Island Pt. 3

Quagmire wants more information about Gold Digger Island. To obtain that he needs to complete the following Task:

Seriously, you have to help Quagmire Hunt for Mermaids! Completing this Task and Quest will also award you with $250 and 170 XP.

Helpful Hint #10

The Need and Effort in Clearing the Pirate's District Land Expansions...

As has previously and repeatedly been pointed out as a helpful hind and matter of clear strategy every player has a vested interest in making certain to clear (that is to say fully unlock) ALL of the Land Expansion Plots in the active District prior to unlocking the next District and the continuing story lines.

While this is not likely to be an issue for the first three Districts, once we arrive at the Pirate's Cove District it will be if only due to the considerable time and expenses involved.

It is highly advisable to create at least one (but perhaps more) Coin Farms in the form of blocks of x10 Common Office Buildings in order to ensure that in addition to the Coin income form the various Tasks that you have your population actively completing, you also have a sympathetic accumulation of Coins via the building tax.

The last two Land Expansion Sections in the current District require the following:

1. A full 36 hours to clear and unlock at the cost of $10K;

2. A full 44 hours to clear and unlock at the cost of $12K.

Seriously if you think about it the costs are clearly rising, and due to that inarguable fact it would be a very good idea to devise a play schedule and plan that will permit you to generate a minimum of around $10K per day to help you stay in front of that bus.

Working Out a Good Income Base

With at least one (1) Coin Farm in place and the aggressive pursuit of Coin via Tasks and Actions, the typical revenue for a game day in which you log in at least 10 times with at least one (1) hour separation, you can easily anticipate hitting the mark at around $11K to $12K per game day profits.

The accumulated Coin profits for a day of play fall somewhere in the area of $1K Coins per Coin Farm plus a conservative $6K to $7K from the task/action rewards for the population (presuming you are not doing random Tasks but are following those either required for ongoing Quests or targeted to maximize acquiring XP (particularly in the case of "young" Characters - i.e: lower level).

Do the math and try to target a minimum of at the least a daily take of $10K and you will find this an easy to sustain target income for managing the expansion process without having to tread water in order to obtain the required Coin.

The Quahog Seahog

I would like to think that the name of this Mission is not a less than elegant slam on Meg Griffin but... Well, anyway the pirates want Peter to slay the Quahog Seahog - and that naturally requires a lengthy and challenging process!

The Quahog Seahog Pt. 1

The pirates want Peter to slay the Qauhog Seahog, but to do that Peter first needs to complete the following Tasks:

1. Build Quahog Oceanland (Cost = $10K with a 24h Build Time)

Make sure that you have a Builder available and make sure you have a nice sized chunk of land available that is relatively close to the beach. Well, technically it does not really have to be on or even close to the beach but, after all, this is a sea Aquarium we are talking about so it should be...

2. Rescue Meg from the Aquarium

As with the previous Buildings that add a character to your town, once the building is built there is some sort of secondary requirement to actually unlocking the character - usually a resource collection - but in the case of Meg what Peter wants is to check her birth certificate so she can prove he is responsible for her... Harsh.

So to complete this part of the Mission, fully unlock Meg Griffin, and add her to your Quahog, you just need to tap her, tap the birth certificate, and then have Peter do the following Task:

Double Check Birth Certificate (20h) $135 and 90 XP

Once Peter completes the above Task you tap Meg again and tap the lock to unlock her and add her to your town - easy peasy lemon-squeezy!

Completing this Mission awards you with $250 and 170 XP.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

The Quahog Seahog Pt. 2

It seems that Meg is hungry so give her a hand scarfing hotdogs won't you?

Scarf Hot Dogs (8h) $80 and 50 XP.

Completing this Mission awards you with $250 and 170 XP.

The Multiplying Multiverse

A one-off Mission whose aim is to reinforce your awareness of the multiverse - that is to say the social network side of the game - in which you invite your mates to play the game and are thus able to visit with them and see their towns, and perhaps help each other out?

The Multiplying Multiverse

It is time once again to focus our attention on the social networking side of mobile gaming on your mobile device!

To complete this Mission all that you need to do is visit a town in the multiverse.

Completing this Mission awards you with $25 and 20 XP.

Quahog Connection

This Mission involves the linkage of Facebook to your game so that you can invite your mates to play socially with you. This Mission is on a 24h timer I assume so that it does not hang around for people who either do not have Facebook in order to complete it or choose not to, so you will need to complete the various bits within that timer time.

Quahog Connection Pt. 1

Connect to Facebook to play this game with your friends and earn 5 free Clams. Complete the following step:

Log In to Facebook via the Multiverse and confirm your account email, giving the game permission to post to your wall and voila! Mischief managed!

Your reward for completing this Mission is 5 Clams!

Quahog Connection Pt. 2

Invite 5 Facebook friends to play and earn 5 free Clams!

Simply visit the Multiverse while you are logged into Facebook on your device, and then tap the Invite button in the bottom right hand corner, and invite at least five of your Facebook mates. That is all that there is to it!

When you return to your town you complete this Quest and receive a reward of 5 Clams.

This nicely wraps up the Mission series and hey, grats to you! You now have a bunch of mates to play the game with!

Black and White Blues

Our attention has once again shifted to Jerome - the new owner of The Drunken Clam (Peter's drinking venue of choice) and his need for the assistance of some of his mates and customers who while perhaps not entirely the braintrust required may, nonetheless, offer him their combined experience and skills.

Black and White Blues Pt. 1

Jerome wants to fit in better with his neighbors! In a casual conversation with Peter Griffin in which Jerome sought a better rounded notion of just what it is that his neighbors are interested and specifically just what it is that the typical white suburban citizen wants to discuss and partake of, Jerome decides to launch a new business. To further this goal complete the following Task:

1. Place a Hummus Cart

You can find it in the DECOS Menu of your Quahog Online Store: The very popular red-and-gold two-wheeled "White People Like Hummus Cart" is just the ticket, and at an investment total of only $1,250 hard-earned Coin you can hardly go wrong!

After all "Who doesn't love food that comes in the same containers as glue? Visit the cart if you like hearing full-grown adults use the world yummy." Seriously! Really! Bitchin'!

1. Buy and place the "White People Like Hummus Cart" ($1,250) Instant Build.

Placing this food cart completes the Mission, and rewards you with $250 and 170 XP.

Personally I thought that the perfect place for this bad-boy is the beach bus stop, where those arriving for a day at the beach can grab drinks and those headed home can grab a snack for the ride!

Forever In Speedos

Considering the creative source material behind this game - the Family Guy TV Show - you didn't honestly believe that the game was going to be any less potentially offensive did you?

It should have been pretty obvious that there was at least some sort of weird and twisted undercurrent to the quests and missions, as well as the tasks and actions in the game to start with...

Then there are the very strange Outfits along with the story-situations around which they center that suggest a rather disturbing back-story at least in terms of the creative mind behind them - which let us be honest here is down to Seth MacFarlane and the old saying "Where there's smoke . . ."

So yeah there is an undercurrent... A weird and twisted one that encompasses the Outfits and the personalities and.. did you? No, really? Did you really?

Peter of the Caribbean

It seems that Peter is taking to the role of Pirate Captain like a duck takes to water! Take heart though as this is not only an interesting Mission and a chance to observe power going to Peter's head, it also happens to be the last official mission of the District.

Technically you could end up with an additional Mission if you have premium Characters but probably not. Either way though you have cause to celebrate because you have made serious Progress here - another District down and about to unlock a new one...

A Pirate's Conclusion

As you begin the final Quest for this District - Peters of the Caribbean - you will flag the quest "A Whole Lotta Bull" which is the fist Mission/Quest of the next Zone and District - The Civic Center District - before you unlock the new District and clear the first Land Expansion we should discuss a few things...

Up to this point your Mission has been to accomplish three basic tasks:

1. Clear new land and Districts;

2. Add new Buildings and the Characters associated with them;

3. Level up the new Characters to a point where they can do the majority of their Tasks.

The point to these three goals is very simple - it permits you to take advantage of and make use of all of the many different activities in the game, from alternate Outfits to new skills and abilities while at the same time advancing the story and the sub-plots around which the story is focused.

I mention all of this in order to focus your attention on what may be the most important point of this guide and walkthrough - that being The Story.

The Importance of Stories

While the purpose of video games is to entertain - to give the gamer something to do and challenge them in the process - ultimately they serve the same purpose that books did prior to the 1990s, and movies prior to the 2010s - that is to say they provide the stage for immersive story-based entertainment of a sort that shares not just a plot but ideas as well.

The modern video game has taken over that role today, and as it continues to mature, the mobile game has taken on an ever-increasing and significant leading role among video games.

Up to this point we have been working on the three basic tasks as outlined above, but now we move into a new sphere in which the story itself will grow increasingly more important.

This intermission is meant to address that fact so that you are consciously aware of it. So that you will, as the story continues to unfold, better appreciate it.

Moving forward from here you are going to want to focus upon a new set of priorities, which in addition to the ones we have been following (expanding our land, Buildings, Characters, and capabilities) will now include a few more very important goals, the head of which is expanding the sub-plots that branch off of the main story being told.

Honestly there was only so much depth to a story whose primary focus is the rebuilding of a town that was torn apart by a battle between the protagonist and a giant chicken. Just saying...

So at the risk of repeating myself to the point of growing annoying, please put a priority upon the following points as you play the game from here:

1. Land Expansion - the presumption is that by now you have heard and understand what motivates the need to complete the land expansion process prior to expanding a new District. If you have not completed unlocking the last pair of land expansions, now is the time to do it. As you prgress from here put a strong emphasis upon the Land Expansion Slots.

2. Outstanding Missions and Quests - These are the foundation for both the primary plot and all of the sub-plots so serious effort should be made to complete each of the missions, quests, and sub-quests. Try not to allow them to fall by the wayside, right?

3. Character Leveling - Leveling the new Characters you have obtained in your game is now more important than ever, particularly with respect to equipping them for access to their primary Tasks. The general rule should be to get every character to a minimum of Level 10 as quickly as you can, even if that means treading water (halting forward Progress while you actively work to level up your characters) in the same manner that you did to clear the land prior to moving on to the next District.

The FaceSpace Tool

For perspective on this third focus log into the FaceSpace interface in your game now.

The status in my game as I write this is that I have 16/23 Characters unlocked. A quick scan of those characters via FaceSpace shows that NONE have reached Level 10 yet! That is not good but it gives me the primary focus that I need in determining how to move forward from here.

It helps bring clarity to the decision that I need to make next, which is to achieve parity for my Characters.

Treading Water

Even though I have reached the point where I can complete the Mission "A Whole Lotta Bull" now if I want to, instead I am going to "tread water" and work on unlocking the last Land Expansion while at the same time leveling the Characters I have now. You may want to do the same - I promise you that it is not wasted time and you will not regret doing it!

Some of the missions and quests in the game are level-based so leveling up your Characters can trigger them. Any missions that are triggered and that apply will be documented at the top of the next section, and are noted as such.

Of the 16 Characters in my game right now, X are Level 9, X are Level 8, X are Level 7, X are Level 6, and the remaining X are Level 5. Obviously it is the ones that are Level 5 I need to be most concerned with. To maintain parity the plan is to get all of the characters to Level 10 - so when a character reaches level 10 during this treading water stage, I plan to stop leveling them while I get the remaining characters to Level 10. YMMV.

How you choose to handle this is your call - do it or don't - but I strongly recommend you do this not just because it will keep you in synch with the guide, but because it will make the game so much more fun and intense.

Bonus Effects

In addition to getting all of your Characters to Level 10 and thus giving all of them access to their primary tasks, you will also accomplish the following bonus effects for your efforts:

(a) Build a comfortable bank of Coins;

(b) Be able to complete adding at least one of each structure type to your town;

(c) Allow you to obtain the remaining Outfit resources that are required to unlock ALL of the outstanding Outfits in your game up to this point. That alone makes this pause worth doing.

That wraps up the intermission save for the actual leveling, which should take you something like three to five days depending o how often you play. See you in the next Section!
