Important Guide News!

The following Issues will Impact the Users of this WTG - so please read this carefully so that you both fully understand the implications - and that we are not in any way abandoning you!

Reduced Coverage Levels

Author Robert A. Heinlein may not have coined the phrase "There ain't no such thing as a Free Lunch - which he shortened to "TANSTAAFL" when he used it in his 1966 science-fiction novel The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress but he certainly popularized the saying.

I mention this because it very seriously applies to the situation we have here, with this WTG...

As far as freemium grinders go, Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff is one of the better ones and it certainly numbers in the Top 10 - but in making what may very well BE the perfect Freemium Grinder.

Particularly when it comes to special events, the wizards behind the game have created something of a monster that, no matter how dedicated we are to play, or how much sleep we are willing to lose, we simply cannot complete without spending real-world money.

That is a problem for us because we simply can not cover a guide without it at least paying for itself, and this one is not doing that because of the massive expense of covering the special events.

It was a very difficult decision to make - particularly as we know that a large number of readers who justifiably consider themselves to be part of the SuperCheats Quest for Stuff Community and who often email me about the guide and things I missed or should add use it as a high-water mark to keep track of what they are doing - and what they maybe should be doing.

Because there is such a large and involved community we cannot simply walk away from the guide - or terminate it in place, which is the obvious route to take all things considered.

Having pointed that out, we also want to point out that even if that is the logical answer it is not the one we choose, though it must be understood by the QfS community that changes must happen.

After really beating our brains out over the issue we have come to the conclusion that we can no longer afford the expenses of covering the special events.

We could probably cover the smaller ones and the mini-events, but when we discussed that it was pointed out that all of those special events were short-term content anyway!

The information that we paid so much to acquire was only good for as long as the events ran, and after that it was only of historical note!

It makes more sense - the point was made - for us to cover the regular game content - which means the opening of new Districts, the Expansion Areas, and that sort of thing - basically content that will be used and re-used by generation after generation of SuperCheats Quest for Stuff Community Members.

And you know what? It does!

Guide Focus Changes

We have nicely wrapped up the Star Trek Event - but from here on that will be the last Special Event we cover.

We will continue to play - and we will continue to guide out the base game, but our coverage of special and expansion events ends with the Star Trek Event.

We are okay with that! No tears are being shed here! It makes complete sense to go this route - and we hope that you will agree with us on that!

We look forward to continuing to serve your guide needs in terms of the base game, and we look forward to many and sundry special events in the future - Special Events that we, like you, will experience not as guide writers, but Quest for Stuff players.

That is what we needed to share with you. We hope that this does not upset anyone. It was a decision that had to be made, and it is a good news one because it means we can continue to cover the base game. So yeah, cool that!
