Always start the game by doing the quests (except 'monsters' quests) as this will give you the resources that you need in the early stages of the game.
Bases cannot be completely destroyed and can always be repaired. Walls and traps have to be rebuilt. Monsters and resources are the only things you lose in the housing.
Truces are a great way to get our of a difficult combat situation, or to buy yourself time to recover between attacks.
For a truce to be effective, both players have to accept it. You can request a truce by clicking on the map room and finding the player you are in conflict with. Should they reject your offer, you have to wait 2 days before trying again. If they accept, it will last for 14 days.
When starting a new game, you are automatically protected from attacks by other players for 14 days - effectively a truce situation. Should you attack someone yourself, this will of course void the truce.
Finally, if your base is getting pummeled, or you are being constantly attacked, the game will often instate a period of protection to give you some respite.
To get shiny in Backyard Monsters, you can always just purchase them (with real money). Another way is to complete the offers that appear in game under 'get more shiny', such as filling in surveys or downloading certain things.
Another popular way to get shiny is to pick mushrooms - you usually get a proportion of these for every bunch picked.
If you throw Project X with the 10M Putty Rage from your catapult it will do the most damage. If you use the Monster Lab, Project X can be given the ability to release acid when it is killed damaging ALL the buildings around it.
Pick mushrooms if you want more shiny, don't worry about running out of mushrooms as they grow back every day.
How to get a lot of shiny
1) go to backyard monsters
2)then find mushroom
3)thenpick it (make sure it has shiny)
4)when you see the word your worker stuck gold
5)lastly reload and you will see the mushroom you pick when you pick it the shiny is still there
Use the hatcheries to create the monsters that are required to evolve your champion for the next 6 stages.
Pick mushrooms if you want more shiny, don't worry about running out of mushrooms as they grow back every day.
