EA Sports UFC 4 Beginners Guide
Play Practice Modes
If you are not familiar with the UFC games you may want to consider spending some times in the practice modes learning the various moves before jumping into the Octagon for a real fight. Making use of the practice arena will quickly help you improve your game.
Work the Jab
The most important tool in your repertoire is the lead jab which when used correctly to the head and body will create openings to follow up with powerful straight right hands and hooks which will deal damage to the opponent. Having an effective jab will also help ensure you stay ahead on the scorecards should the fight go the distance.
Use Lateral Movement
Make use of lateral movement to avoid punches and avoid taking damage. Moving side to side if timed correctly will not only enable you to avoid incoming punches and kicks it can also if timed correctly put you in a good position to counterattack your opponent with some damaging strikes.
Learn Combos
Learning to put effective combos together in UFC 4 is not easy compared to other fighting games. Start off by learning the one-two combo which is a left jab (right jab if fighting southpaw) followed immediately with a powerful right hand. Once you have mastered this you can start to add in another punch such as a left hook or even a roundhouse kick for a one-two-three combo. Check the in-game move list to see which combinations your fighter can throw with maximum efficiency.
Pay Attention to Stamina
Make sure you manage your stamina wisely, you will lose it very quickly if you continuously try to end the fight with a powerful punch or kick. Bide your time and wait for openings to appear which you can take advantage of before attempting a powerful strike. Don't overuse head and lateral movements either as these also make your fighter gas very quickly. Fighters will regain stamina when in an inactive state. This means you recover the most stamina when standing still or when you have distance between yourself and your opponent.
Strike while clinching
A clinch move is when both competitors are grabbing hold of one another while standing. In UFC 4 you can take down your opponent while clinching if you land 4 rapid hits.
Take your Opponent Down
Taking your opponent down will leave them open to massive damage. Make sure you get the timing right before going in for a takedown otherwise you will leave yourself open to massive damage. The best time to initiate a takedown is when your opponents stamina is very low and they are gassed.
Unlock Bruce Lee
Mixed Martial arts pioneer Bruce Lee returns to UFC 4 as a pre-order bonus or DLC. The easiest way to unlock him is by purchasing the game through the 'buy it now' slide in the UFC 3 in-game menus.
Play Career Mode
Simply by playing Career mode in UFC 4 you will learn the game's mechanics and teaches you everything you need to know about playing the game. It also helps you to figure out what fighting style best suits your play style.
