DNF Duel is a spin-off of the Dungeon & Fighter series. This is a fighting game where you traverse 2D screens taking on hordes of monsters. Choose from 16 characters, each with their distinct skills and personalities. Outsmart, outplay, or beat up your opponents as you strive to become the master of the Ultimate Will.
Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include why it is important that you watch your mana levels and why you shouldn't be defensive in a fight.
The controls to fighting games tend to be different, so you may find it will take you some time getting used to those of DNF Duel which is a '4 button' fighter (not counting the limited use Awakening Skill). This means you only have four attack buttons, as opposed to for example SuperSmash Bros' 3 or Street Fighter's 6. These buttons are the standard A, standard B, Skill, and MP Skill buttons. Each of these buttons have similar functions for every character.
There are 16 different characters from which to choose from in DNF Duel and to begin with while you are learning the game it is recommended that you just choose a character that you like the look of. Then when you start getting better at the game try out other characters to find the one that best suits your playstyle.
In DNF Duel all the moves including the MP skills can either be performed with a single button or a button and a directional input which makes things easier if you are a new player. You can though perform the MP skills via motion inputs, but this is something you can eventually learn once you have got to grip with the basics. Motion inputs make skills cost less mana, allowing you to pump out bigger moves in a given combo, so it is essential that you know how to do them.
It is important in DNF Duel that you keep an eye on the game's blue meter as this represents your mana which is a resource that controls all your MP skills. If you overuse your MP skills and allow your mana to become depleted you will not be able to use these attacks for a few seconds which can leave you vulnerable and give your opponent the advantage. Keep in mind that you can save mana and deal bigger moves in a combo by using motion inputs.
Keep in mind that DNF Duel has mechanics that punish players for being too defensive so always look to go on the attack during a fight. Many of the attacks in the game are capable of dealing large amounts of chip damage through the player's shield, this means if you are continually on the defensive the shield will eventually break. This is something you need to avoid happening as it will leave you open to an opponent's attack. Always keep an eye on the shield meter that is next to your health as this indicates how close your shield is to breaking.
