Dead or Alive 6 is a fast-paced 3D fighting game that follows the events of Dead or Alive 5 and focuses on the battle between 'Ninja and Doatec' versus 'M.I.S.T. lead by Donovan', and the events that occur during the 6th Dead or Alive Tournament. New side story episodes have been added for returning characters and as is tradition with Dead or Alive games fights are based on a triangle system where strikes beat throws, throws beat holds, and holds beat strikes. New features introduced in Dead or Alive 6 include slow-motion moments and visible damage on the fighters during the course of the fight strikes.

Below is a list of new or changed features in Dead or Alive 6

• Throws no longer track.

• Break Blows replace Power Blows.

• Slow Escape is gone or drastically toned down.

• Meter gain is very fast, favoring the offensive player.

• Sidestep Attacks are extremely evasive.

• Movement seems slightly improved.

• Meter carries over from round to round.

• Fatal Stun replaces the Critical Burst mechanic.

• You can switch between a 3-way hold system and a 4-way hold system.

• Fatal Rush starts with a moderately slow high attack and leads into an unholdable Fatal Stun.

Below is a list of the features that are stilll basically the same as Dead or Alive 5

• Only neutral throws can be broken.

• Power Blow and Critical Burst are gone.

• Most attacks are still negative when blocked.

• Ground game.

• Wake-up options.

• Countering out of stun.

• Buffer window for attacks and blocking.

• The main form of punishment is throws, not attacks.
