This boss is fast and aggressive. He won't let you get any rest and you'll have a very small window to heal yourself if needed. He can close the distance very quickly and punish you with his fast combos if he catches you off guard. Be on the defensive and attack only after he finishes his strike(s). One annoying thing about this enemy is that he will immediately leap away, making you miss then counterattack. Be careful when using slow weapons like the mace since missing an attack will leave you open for an immediate counterattack.

For players that has at least 30 strength, you can use the Tower Shield from the chest after defeating the Old Dragonslayer boss. This shield has 100% physical damage reduction rate and 70 stability, enabling you to withstand the Sinner's attacks without getting damaged and consuming too much stamina. Melee fighters will have to rely on this since they're mostly STR-oriented.

Human players can also summon Lucatiel in the room with the lift. She's a valuable ally that can distract who can tank the Sinner for a while so you can pummel it with your own attacks. This is a good strategy for sorcerers and ranged fighters. By the time Lucatiel is vanquished, the Sinner should be well below 50% HP, provided that you're hitting him with all your attacks. After that, it will tough since the Sinner can easily close the distance with his speed and aggressiveness.

When fighting the Sinner, you have to keep circling around it by moving leftward with your shield up. As soon as it finishes its attack, use this chance to land a hit or two. Block only his wide-arc attacks; this will conserve your stamina. If you need to recover stamina, lower your guard just after you block his attack and raise it again to be on the defensive.

Keep an eye to your stamina; blocking his strong attacks will almost instantly drain your stamina, leaving your helpless. The area is also dark, unless you light up the torches. These torches are accessible from the locked doors outside. Lock-on is very important in this battle since it will keep you facing the Sinner and will enable you to see his next move. The lock-on will disappear from time to time, especially if you're fighting in the dark. Don't rush this battle; as long as you keep damaging him while blocking his attacks, you'll survive. In case you need healing, wait for him to finish his combo and as soon as the last attack lands, use an Estus Flask.

Fast, aggressive and unforgiving

After defeating it, open the door and loot the Fragrant Branch of Yore and an Elizabeth Mushroom from the chest after the stairs. Light up the primal bonfire to be transported back to Majula.

The Fragrant Branch of Yore can be used to un-pretrify some NPCs. The first example is the wizard Straid, who is blocking a bonfire leading to Sinner's Rise or the petrified Rosabeth of Melfia in Majula's Shaded Path.
