Cricket 2005, the very first cricket game to hit the Xbox. Created by EA Sports, turns out to be another disappointing Cricket game, despite some good features.
Cricket 2005 gives you the chance to play as any international team of choice, and even the English County and Australian State teams, in almost every possible competition imaginable in the game of Cricket.
The graphics department is pretty good, with very smooth framerate of 60fps (Frames per Second), which means when the bowler bowls, the ball flies though the air quite smoothly. The faces of the players have turned out to be ok, a few minor details would make each player a bit more recognizable.
The sound is pretty average for any sort of game. There's no real way to distinguish the difference of the ball being hit cleanly or just edged. The music isn't the best, it's what you would normally expect from EA. The sound of the crowd isn't really anything special either.
The only thing that keeps this above a five or less rating is the 60fps. A lot of the movements made by the fieldsman is pretty much very different to what you would get in the real game. The movements of the batsman is ok, but sometimes when the batsman goes to hit the ball, he misses completely, but still manages to get a four or something similar.
This game is usually only going to last you through the cricket season, which means that you'll most likely find yourself playing other sports games such as football or soccer. There aren't exactly a lot of features that you will find keep bringing you back either.
Overall, Cricket 2005 seems to be another disappointing cricket game from EA. The only decent features are the graphics (and maybe the create a player) which leaves plenty of room for improvement. Luckily, for cricket fans that Brian Lara/Ricky Ponting Internation Cricket 2005 shapes up to be a least a bit better.
