Introduction

Welcome to Arkham Asylum, home to most whacked out criminals Gotham has ever seen. You play as Batman, returning the Joker back to the Asylum but suspicious of how it was so easy of capturing him. When things go horribly wrong, Joker suddenly has control of the facility and has plans for the Asylum, and for Gotham itself. How will you as Batman capture the Joker, and the rest of the inmates that have been released?

Graphics

Running on the technology of the Unreal Engine 3, this game is of course very beautiful indeed. Of course, I enjoy nice beautiful colors and what not, but that wouldn't set the tone for how this game is. It is always nighttime, and it almost sets the comic book tone just slightly. Even though the Engine has been updated, this game was very beautiful for it being a 2009 game.

Sound

The sounds to the game are actually par at best. It gives the feel of the comic book sounds you would like to hear, but it just doesn't stand out to me. However, the music to the game is absolutely beautiful if you listen to it. It really sets the tone to the situation at hand and will get you on the edge of your seat in the scary situations.

Gameplay

This doesn't get a perfect score simply for one reason: Detective Mode. Sure, it's a great help in the game, however, you spent the majority of your game in this mode, and to me ruined the game a little. You saw the environment differently and could not see the beauty of the game. The fights in this game is almost flawless, except for counters as they do not work all the time. The freeflow fighting makes everything a little easy but it is fun kicking butt to every criminal you find. The riddles add more mystery to the game and challenges add much more fun. The story is also very well played out, but can get boring halfway through.

Lastability

After you beat the game, there is still stuff to find, like the Riddler's challenges, riddles, and trophies to find. Along with finding these things, there are challenges to be played that are actually quite difficult if you still don't have the fighting down like I had. After that, there isn't much to really do.

Overall

Rocksteady did a very well job on this game, as it has won many Game of the Year awards and other awards. As for many Batman games other than the Lego series, this is one of the best Batman games to be released. There is currently a sequel out called Arkham City, and if you enjoyed this game, I'd recommend getting that. This game is a lot of fun and I would recommend getting this game to play if you are a Batman fan.
