Homestead Missions Note
Latest update by CMBF
on Dec 12th 2012
The Homestead quests for the most part center around adding crafters (residents) to the game, and then upgrading what they can provide in resources as well as their level of expertise in the items that they can craft, the problem is that these quests are locked into the Sequences that they appear in for the most part, so if the player makes the mistake of advancing the Sequence before they completed the available Homestead Quests, they lose the ability to do them, and that completely hoses any possibility of creating most of the advanced recipes, including special reward ones.
Because of this it is absolutely paramount that you remember to clear outstanding quests and missions BEFORE you advance the Sequence. That is simple enough to do if you get into the practice of completing the optional missions before you do the main mission in each Sequence, but you need to be aware that the Homestead Region is NOT the only place that these missions appear!
You will find them in all of the other regions, so prior to taking up the Main Mission and story line with each Sequence you need to be sure that you have checked each of the active maps for the regions you have access to during the Sequence and, if there are Homestead mission present, complete them first.
You may also want to complete any missions for other factions, since some of them can disappear as well when you advance the sequence, and though it is not clear if those will not return, it is clear that the Homestead Missions will be lost to you if you do not do them first.
Mission Availability by Sequence
As you progress each Sequence specific missions will become available - some of these missions are only available during specific seasons... Others are dependent upon the completion state of other missions.
You will be able to obtain the Farmer family, and the Lumberer Families, as well as their first upgrades during this Sequence, but you need to return to and chat with Achilles between these missions. After Sequence 05 is completed (and before you start Sequence 06) you should also flag the missions for the Huntress (Homestead), and the Miner (Boston).
Once you complete Sequence 05 and prior to beginning the missions for Sequence 06 you can talk to Achilles to flag the quest “Encyclopedia of the Common Man” which is a long-term quest that has you scanning (targeting with Left Trigger) the crafters in the Homestead Region while they are performing their special crafts and activities.
This is not a core or critical quest, and it will not be impacted by advancing the Sequences, however completing it may impact the availability of other unrelated missions, so you may be best served by not working on it until late in the game, after you have added and leveled all of the Homestead resident crafters.
You will have the opportunity to level-up your existing residents during this Sequence, so you should check each of the regions and the Homestead in between the story missions in order to complete any of the leveling (or new) quests that become available.
At this point you should have the Farmers, Huntress, Lumberers, and Miner. The leveling quests for most of these take place in the non-winter months, and may require you to do one of the stories in the Sequence to get them to appear, just be certain to check for the quests between story missions.
During this Sequence you will be able to add an Innkeeper to the Homestead, and level up your other crafters – with the leveling missions being divided by the quest you need to do for Achilles, so after you do his quest check for additional crafter leveling quests.
During this Sequence you will add the Blacksmith to Homestead and have a leveling-up mission.
This will be one of the busiest Sequences for Homestead, in that you will be adding the Tailor, the Priest, and the Doctor in New York, and leveling the Blacksmith, Huntress, Tailor, and Woodworker (some of them multiple times). You will want to remember to check the Boston Map throughout the Sequence as there will be leveling missions there as well.
This Sequence is pretty much all leveling, so be sure to check the maps for the quests, and do them.
This is another Sequence that is all leveling, and will likely be the one in which you do all of the major reward crafting as you will have full access to the resources and skills at this point, though you may have done some of them previously - depends on how fixated you are with that :)
