Over the course of the past two decades ever three-to-four years one or more of the websites that cover games and gaming news will declare PC Gaming to be dead (or dying). This happens most often whenever a new generation of gaming console comes out, but in spite of the speculation that the new standards for gaming will result in the death of PC Gaming, it never happens.

Part of the reason for that is the fluid nature of PC Tech -- unlike games consoles, which are locked into the hardware configuration that they launch with, on an average of every 16 months an entirely new set of standards for PC hardware -- and thus its gaming capabilities -- appears, refreshing and invigorating the PC games community and empowering the folks who make PC games to turn out a new and even more impressive line of games.

The carefully guided path that Paradox has taken with respect to the RTS genre, practically making it its own, combined with its push towards publisher-owned digital distribution means that PC Gaming is certainly safe once again. As Paradox opens new paths in the Free-2-Play and MMO gaming genres, and possibly transitions some of their titles onto console, one thing is certain: as gamers we live in interesting times.
