Will Skull and Bones Challenge Assassins Creed?

Ubisoft, the company that brought us Watch Dogs and Far Cry have announced at E3 that they will be releasing Skull and Bones, an online navel game set in 1712 that takes inspiration from the naval battles from another of their popular titles, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Scheduled to be released in the fall of 2018 on PC, Xbox One and PS4 Skull and Bones will allow gamers to relive the Golden Age of Piracy where they will create their own unique pirate captains and sail through the beautiful yet treacherous Indian Ocean in their quest to rule the seas and become the deadliest pirate kingpin.

Will this tactical action online game compete with the established Assassins Creed franchise or will it prove to be a pale immitation that is soon forgotten?

What makes Skull and Bones more than just another open-world Ubisoft game is that it is a shared universe where players can either play solo or form pirate gangs with friends, taking on other players in the game’s competitive multiplayer seasons. Fans of the Assassins Creed games will be pleased to know that the controls are all the same but added concentration will be required because the direction of the wind will have a significant effect on them. As well as the controls feeling familiar there are a lot of visual similarities such as the scenery which evokes the vivid tropics of Assassin's Creed IV. One feature that has been revealed at E3 and has everyone talking is the inclusion of deep sea monsters like the Kraken which players will have to contend with as they plunder rich trade routes on the high seas.
