Next Legend of Zelda is the most anticipated game of next year

The recent 2016 game awards have announced their most anticipated game of next year, a category voted on by the public. Beating several other game sequels, such as the popular Red Dead Redemption 2, and the fan favourite Mass Effect: Andromeda, the award has gone to another long awaited game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The award category is created to 'Recognize an upcoming game that has shown significant ambition and promise in moving the gaming medium forward'. So it is possible that the initial planning of this next Legend of Zelda game as a launch title for the new console from Nintendo, the Nintendo Switch has given it the edge here.

The Switch is due for release in March of 2017, although recent information suggests that the game itself may not be ready for that launch date. That will be a disappointment for fans, but the hype around the console still suggests that it will be popular.
