Nintendo announce the Switch coming March 2017

Nintendo has today revealed the device that it has been teasing us with as the code named NX. Its next games machine will be another attempt to capture the interest of all gamers with a handheld portable device that will also be used as a console. The Nintendo Switch will be release in March 2017.

Our first introduction to it is the video posted on youtube that give us a quick demonstration of all the ways it will be possibly to play and entertain yourself on the device.

Looking on its own like a tablet you will be able to play it on the go with controllers that attach to its sides. On its own while out and about with the controllers detached for more freedom and with a multiplayer option, and then you can also dock it when you are at home to play through your TV. It certainly seems to have all the bases covered. However, it is yet to reveal the technical specifications of the device.

So this devices isn't going to be able to compete with the standard home consoles of Sony and Microsoft for power or in their race for the HD VR market. But it is clearly hoping to be every ones favourite second console and portable game option rolled into one.

The concern over how well it could possibly do after the relative failure of the WiiU to come anywhere near the expected sales will hopefully be relieved by the announcement that leading games studios and publishers such as Activision, Bethesda, EA Games, Sega, Ubisoft and Warner Brothers had signed up to produce software. And the continued popularity of the 3DS devices show that nintendo can still perform in the handheld market.

To make the launch a success though it will need to make sure it has soe big hitting titles ready to go to grab the audience. Mario, Zelda and Metroid will need to joining the party. Nintendo has already announced that the long awaited and sought after Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released on the Switch.
