Top 10 Pokemon that Could Replace Pikachu as the Face of the Franchise
#1 - Charizard
Only one Pokemon in the history of the Franchise has been as popular as Pikachu - perhaps even more than that - and that Pokemon is Charizard. Since the original generation of Pokemon, Charizard has been a fan favorite. It was clearly the most popular Starter Pokemon of the Kanto region, and perhaps even the most of that entire generation. Mewtwo, Dragonite, Pikachu, and Blastoise come close, but none of them can really touch the status and fame of Charizard.
And if Charizard wasn't the most popular then, it definitely is now. The idea of Mega Evolutions were first released in Pokemon X and Y, and Charizard received not one but TWO of them. Only Mewtwo was the only other Pokemon to receive this honor, so that says A TON about Charizard and it. Obviously the Pokemon Creators wanted two of the most popular Pokemon in existence to receive the pleasure of two Mega Evolutions. This only proves that Charizard has what it takes to be the face of the franchise instead of Charizard.
And if that wasn't enough, Charizard - Mega Charizard X to be specific - was the chosen Pokemon to the mini series of the Mega Evolutions Act. This series could be a hint towards the future where Charizard, or one of its Mega Evolutions, could be the face of the franchise. The mini series has fared pretty decently, so this could be a change in the making.
If Charizard was to finally overtake Pikachu spot, it most likely would have to be without Ash included. Ash already has a Charizard, and yet Pikachu has taken all the glory. It would be weird for Charizard to just up and take Pikachu's place with Ash, so a new main trainer would have to be in place. Perhaps even the one from the mini series...Final Thoughts:

As I was saying, why even break up Pikachu and ash, they have such a close bond, such a close friendship, I don't think they should be broke up. I think they should continue the way they are
It wood be cool 2 c pikachu evoluv by accident to me, but all the other poke him on the mentioned, I don't think can take the place of Pikachu, because he could you have such a bond with ash, that, how could I ain't anything else other than Pikachu evolving? Purely by accident. The place of Pikachu to me. Into me. The only reason I say by accident is because if Pikachu were to evolve on purpose, to me would not be right since they've written in the story line that ash and Pikachu ash and Pikachu. Want Pikachu to evolve. Based on respect and based on their relationship. But it would be cool to see Pikachu of all, not only because I would learn new moves, but I think. Strengthen their relationship because they could finally mega evolve. And I know that strengthens the relationship between trainer and Pokemon. Only way it could happen is by accident, but if they decide to place Pikachu, I'd be outraged because Pikachu has been such a m face poke him on and because.why even break up Pikach

Charizard is just so unoriginal.
Any legend would be nice in the anime.
I'd like to point out a couple of things. First, Ash has a Charizard that played an important role for quite some time. They might happen to make it return so it reclaims its spot at Pikachu's side. And I could also see a Lucario being added to the mix. Pikachu, Charizard and Lucario... I could really imagine that trio be awesome.
Another thought, I would consider Eevee having risen in probability, with its new Z-Move. Extreme Evoboost is the third best Z-Move next to 1 Million Volt Thunderbolt and Genesis Supernova IMO. It also underlines the importance of Mew and Eevee. Would be a bit less cool than Pikachu together with Charizard and Lucario though.

Ash's Charizard tho.. he had attitude xD I loved that about him, he never cared and only evolved because he wanted to go after Aerodactyl, not to save Ash or anything. It makes me wonder why later series never brought up his past Pokémon that he still had. I feel like it would have kept me stuck on the show.

Ash already has a Charizard so it would be perfect for the lead.

The mini series Pokémon mega Evolution is amazing also... I like it. For me it could run into series. Digimon adventures got different protagonist in some series.

I really love Pikachu, Raichu, and Pichu! They're all so cute!
It's weird that in both the games and the shows that pokecenters heal pokemon completely; it basically makes them invincible. I think Mew would be the best if Pikachu died in a battle with Cynthia or whoever is the champion of pokemon in x and y. Mew would be at the funeral and sees ash sobbing and sees true potential and love for Pikachu, so Mew would appear as another Pikachu just like the real icon. At night, Mew would wake up and transform back to his/her true form and kiss Ash and explore the area for dangers. (I hope thats what happens in the series(but not because i hate pikachu, i want a change))

I don't agree with this whatsoever! Lucario is dull , annoying , not as quirky as pikachu and not up for pikachu's job. Sorry pikachu is still my favourite!
well here it is for #5. Ashes Pikachu gets sick by a machine that team rocket created. pikachu gets flown to pallet town for recovery, ash finds a shiny eevee, THEN BOOM! Eevee is in the lead!

All those legendaries.. No just think about Ash or whoever having legendaries as his main pokemon.. Too overpowered. Pichu is too weak, and raichu isn't as good as pikachu.

For half of these, all I could do was facepalm. Anything evolved is a big no (Pikachu was first of it's chain at the start) and legendaries are out of the question. A huge Pokémon would just be stupid. Eevee was actually the only sensible one on this list.
Eevee would be the most likely choice for a new trainer with a large part in the show.

I think that Pichu, Charizard, Jigglypuff, or Meowth would be the best contenders, should the need arise. Don't think it will, but, it's always good to be prepared.
