Bethesda Drops a Bomb at Microsoft E3 Presser: PC Mods for Fallout 4 on Xbox One

06. The Russell Mod (Companion Mod)

The mod scene includes a very large selection of types, which helps to organize them and make the ones you want easier to find, but among those categories there are favorites that tend to be a bit more popular than others, and one of the favorite categories is Companion Mods.

Now it should be understood that we are NOT talking about the adult-only companion mods that um, you know, add a companion for your bedroom...

Don't take this wrong, we are not judging, and hey there are some very good mods in that particular sub-category of the Companions category - but that is not what we are talking about.

What we are talking about are mods for the game that add new companions who will join your party and adventure with you.

NPC mates who will add their brawn and their brightness to your game play experience and even provide a little entertainment as you trek through the Wasteland! How cool is that? Pretty darn cool if we do say so ourselves!

One of our favorite Companion Mods happens to have been created by Someguy2000 - the same bloke who made the New Vargas Bounties Mods. It's called the Russell Mod, and it features an in-depth, fully-voiced lore-friendly male companion who fits right in (he does not break the immersion).

A former desert ranger who has turned to bounty hunting, Russell can be found at the 188 Trading Post, and sports over 1000 lines of voiced dialogue (for him and other NPCs who appear in the quests that he adds to your game) as well as a new weapon and armor set.

Warning: this mod includes adult language. Put it this way, Irish Longshoremen go to Russell to learn how to swear. Yeah, it is loaded with profanity. So um, not a mod you want to play around little children. Unless they are your nieces or nephews, in which case hey, they are not your problem.

This mod also adds a new world space called Caruther's Canyon.

In addition to the above, this mod adds roughly 2 hours of game play, and unique dialogue options for the other bounty mods that were created by Someguyy2000, making this a natural if you have installed one or both of those.

05. New Vegas Bounties

One of the more ambitious of the mods, Bounties adds new voice-work, new quests in the form of bounties, and a new scaled challenge scheme to add a new twist to the game! Once the mod is installed the player gets to travel the world seeking out and claiming the bounties on nefarious individuals who have done someone wrong.

Each bounty is a little adventure of its own, complete with custom voice-work and with each bounty claimed, the next one grows more difficult and challenging.

When the player has completed all of the bounties in the mod, hey, good news! there is an additional installment to load and play! Who knows, this could become a thing, right? We hear that the creator is actually working on a third addition that will be its finale - the idea being he wants to get it out before Fallout 4 releases to offer some closure as we move on to the next game.
