The Top 10 Best Movie Depictions of Video Games

06. The Last Starfighter: Video Game as Test

We always knew that video games were a far more powerful tool for testing and evaluating the skills and bravery of a human than interviews with HR! And we're not alone in holding that opinion - the modern military for most of NATO now uses video games for evaluation and training purposes.

Now we're not saying that they got the idea from the 1984 classic The Last Starfighter - but then considering the plot and the manner in which gaming played such a significant role, we are not saying that they didn't either!

As a footnote, the movie was so popular with gamers that fans actually MADE a game of the game from the movie - check out this Let's Play of Starfighter:

In the movie the protagonist lived and worked at a small trailer park somewhere in ohmygodthisisrural California, and it just so happens that a special video game coin-op cabinet with a very special game was deployed there.

Alex is an ace at the game - which is a good thing, because the game is a testing system to find natural gun fighters for a special type of space fighter - and the reason that they are looking for these naturals? The entire universe is in danger of destruction!

Now the Earth is not part of the Galactic Alliance - and does not even know that it is this close to being conquered or destroyed - but the game evaluation system works. Not gonna ruin the movie for you - if you have not seen it and you are a gamer, it should be on your list.
