Top 10 Hidden GameCube Gems

5. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg stars a young boy that dons a chicken outfit while trying to save a race of roosters from some rather uncouth ravens. I bet that doesn't sound familiar. Anyway, Billy Hatcher has Billy and his friends rolling giant eggs around platformer stages, using the eggs to attack and pick up fruit, which causes the egg to grow. If the eggs grows big enough, you can hatch it into a monster to help you through the various stages, but you also can't let the egg break open early, or roll off a cliff, lest you lose the poor thing.

This makes for a rather weird adventure, one created by Sonic Team back in its glory days. The premise and execution of Billy Hatcher harkens back to the days of the Dreamcast's first party content, which was rife with crazy, unique adventures you couldn't find elsewhere. Everything from the colorful graphics, to the silly plot, to the wonderful and odd soundtrack make the game really stand out.

It's really a shame that the game never got more attention, as aside from Nintendo's unusual take on the Mario series with Super Mario Sunshine, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg manages to be a big breath of fresh air for the platformer genre, and one that deserved just a little more love.
