Top 10 Hidden GameCube Gems

7. Custom Robo

I've already mentioned Custom Robo in the past, but it deserves mentioning again. This arena fighter game has seen a couple entries in Japan, but all that America got was this GameCube entry to the series and its somewhat lesser DS sequel. With an overall lack of mecha style games leaving the Land of the Rising Sun, this may be one of the better games to go to for those looking for that robot fighting itch…

…Even if the robots themselves are tiny. Like any good game trying to appeal to kids at the time, Custom Robo stars a young boy that gets wrapped up in a world-threatening plot with an evil organization, which is trying to collect and use these toy robots in order to rule the world. The… odd method of controlling the world besides, the story gives ample opportunity to thrust your trusty robot into battle, which is the most rewarding part of the game.

Battles are fought in a 3D arena, wherein you can use guns and melee to bring your foes down. Doing so earns you new parts to customize your Robo with, tailoring the robot to fit your fighting style. Being able to change your Robo constantly is needed, as well, since the various opponent foes you have to deal with can be powerful and use different tactics that require different approaches to succeed. Cheesy plot besides, this is a heck of a fun game.
