Top 10 Playstation Games that need to be on PSOne Classics

3. Silhouette Mirage

Treasure is a developer well-known for making high quality action and shump games. Those that know and love Treasure will often cite Gunstar Heroes or Ikaruga as some of the best titles from the developer, and they are in fact well-loved and well-aged classics that any fan of those genres should play. Of course, those two titles aren't the only bullet points on this developer's portfolio, and some of Treasure's other titles are certainly worth being released to a wider audience to enjoy, too.

Enter Sihouette Mirage, Treasure's PlayStation side-scrolling action title. Honestly, Sihouette Mirage is best described as an interesting mix between Gunstar Heroes and Ikaruga, or rather, the game that first introduced the concepts that would eventually become the core of Ikaruga. Therefore, it makes it a pretty intriguing piece of Treasure's history, but it's not one that's quite worth the selling price the PlayStation version of the game is fetching on reselling sites (which is only really around $40, but can be very hard to justify).

In Sihouette Mirage, you control Shyna, a character that has two sides to them: A Silhouette side and a Mirage side. Most beings on the planet only have one of these sides to them, and a war has broken out between the two for supremacy of the world. Of course, it's up to you to stop this war and bring peace back to the world. The plot is fairly solid, and multiple endings help to give the title some replayability, but the story isn't really the reason to play Silhouette Mirage.

Because of the side scrolling nature of Sihouette Mirage, which way Shyna is facing determines her attribute. Typically, if she is facing right, Shyna wields Mirage powers, and if she's facing left, she can use Silhouette moves. Hitting enemies with the opposite attribute drains their hit points, but hitting them with the same attribute lowers the enemy's Spirit Meter, which lowers their attack power… and the same happens to Shyna, too. So, every battle becomes a test of proper angles and choices: Is it best to wear down the enemy's attack power, risking getting hit by their attacks and losing firepower of your own, or go in guns blazing in hopes of wiping the foe out with a barrage of opposite attribute bullets?

Sihouette Mirage is far from perfect, however, and suffers from a few flaws to make it a bit tedious… after all, a side scrolling title that focuses on which way you're facing to damage enemies is bound to have some hiccups in it. But, that's what makes it perfect for a PSOne Classic title: It has a bit of historical gaming value to it, and is interesting, but it is hard to justify a purchase of the original PlayStation game. But, thanks to the low price point of the PSOne Classic titles, Silhouette Mirage can see new light with gamers interested in Treasure's lesser known games.
