Top 10 RPGs for Genre Newcomers

4. Child of Light

When Child of Light came out a bit earlier this year, it made quite the splash. Its beautiful graphics and lush setting won over critics and gamers alike, and Ubisoft was praised for its creative talent. Little do most people realize, though, is that it's also a light RPG title that can enjoyably bring newcomers into the genre fold.

Child of Light gives players an engaging tale made only better by its wonderful use of graphics. Everything in the game, from the foreground to the background, from the characters to their manner of speaking, has been lovingly crafted to remind one of a children's bedtime story. The game pulls it off very well, too, giving a very different experience to enjoy from most videogames, let alone the RPG genre.

But even with that, where Child of Light really shines is in its battle system. It's very easy to learn what the mix of turn based and real time combat expects of you, but it takes time and strategy to master it. However, little is more rewarding in the game than learning to successfully juggle spells and skills while interrupting your foes' moves, and navigating your spirit friend to heal your allies or slow down your enemies just in time for you to barely survive the battle.

But, if it sounds a bit overwhelming, it really isn't; for most gamers, Child of Light on its 'casual' difficulty setting is a relatively easy adventure. It might be a little hard for gamers completely and utterly new to real-time RPGs to grasp at first, but with a little practice they are sure to get the hang of the system's nuances.
