Top 5 Lovable Forgivable Bad Guys

4. Jackie Ma (Sleeping Dogs)

Sleeping Dogs gets a bad rap as a GTA clone when it's actually a truly interesting dynamic in morality. It's in this environment where right and wrong are obscured that Jackie Ma operates. Technically, the henchman is an accomplice to a lot of evildoing in the game. Still, through the friendship with protagonist Wei Shen, Jackie is often mistaken for being a good guy on the wrong side of things. Ultimately, they're still committing crimes. They're in a crime syndicate; it's in the name.

Yet, even as a bad guy, Jackie exudes so much childlike innocence. Sure, it's in order to pursue malicious deeds, but some of the thoughts here are genuinely in the right place. There's a lot of camaraderie in Sleeping Dogs; trust building and even some existentialism. It's a damn shame that this boyish tomfoolery should end in tears, as Wei Shen does work for the police and is charged with bringing in the infiltrated Triad circle.

Worse yet, Jackie's struggles eventually end in a darker way. It's not a slap on the wrist. This strapping young lad deserves an alternate ending, where both chums race off into the sunset. It's just too sad to conclude differently.
