Pokemon: Top Five of the Game Series
3. Pokemon Silver
The second gen games of the series were Pokemon: Gold and Silver, featuring the same basic structure in terms of story and adventure content: the player is making their rite of passage Pokemon Trainer journey with the goal being to win the badges required in order to battle through to the Elite Four and beat them, and then beat the reigning regional Pokemon Champion.
In addition to the traditional coming-of-age adventure there is also the story line and its mysteries, completing the Pokedex by capturing, evolving, and trading all 251 Pokemon, and defeating the bad guys to save the day!
With 100 new species of Pokemon to be captured and trained, the game includes a wide selection of previously discovered Pokemon that probably includes some of your favorites of the previous gen, which while we could not know it then, became something of a tradition in the generations that followed it.Among the new features in Silver was the introduction of the Legendary wandering Pokemon Entei, Suicine, and Raikou, as well as new Pokeballs, the new “held items” ability for Pokemon (including most notably Pokeberries), and the Pokegear System, which added new information technology assets to the games. Two new Pokemon Types were added to the world of Pokemon: Dark Type and Steel Type, along with a plethora of new moves and the division of the Special Attack Type into Special Attack and Special Defense stats.
Probably the most important new addition to the games -- and the core reason for this making it to slot three on the list -- is the addition of Pokemon Breeding in the form of the Pokemon Daycare system and egg-based breeding!
While the case can be made that, being the second generation in the series it is only natural that the expansion of both the story and the open world in the game was to be expected, it was that very broad expansion, as well as the decision to pack in lots of new things to do in order to fill that grand new world, which makes Silver an enduring choice as favorite game ever for a lot of Pokemon Trainers even now.

OK so wow! Good points there! And wow! Strong feelings there!
A lot of this is subjective - obviously - we all are going to like what we like. Personally I found X and Y to be the best yet for me. YMMV
it is confusing to me. you said gen 3 was better than gen 4 then you said said gen 4 was better than all other generations
sorry but x and y were not the best. the problems i had with it were
1. a lot of the pokemon seemed uninspired, i mean really? a key and some diamond rock?
2. the bad guys are so bland and uninteresting, even the main villain lost my interest the first time i seen him
3. the map is huge yet there was very little to do, especially post game, which has been a problem for most games, but at least black and white made an effort with the other half of the island and gold/silver/crystal/heartgold/soulsilver showd that there can be a better post game.
5. why are we getting more friends to go with yet not one decent rival anymore? blue and silver were the best rivals simply because you wanted to beat them to make them suffer, nowadays its like our rivals have to be our friends and it makes it less appealing to beat them
6. mega evolution has no use, if you use it online its a cheap win, if you use it in the game its simply for overkill. it may look cool, but what use is there?
They say that there will be a remake for ruby, sapphire and emerald.
I'm still playing them on my gameboy. Everything after pearl was really trashy
This list is right. No need for Ruby or Sapphire when you have Emerald! I also agree somewhat that X is better than Y because Mega Charizard looks better and becomes a Dragon-Type and Xerneas looks amazing! But! In Y you get to have Mewtwo's Awakened Form For His Mega Evolution. I CAN'T WAIT FOR Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crystal > Every other Pokemon Game
Gen 2 > Gen 1 > Gen 3 > Gen 4 > All other generations
Here is the new list
what about ruby or saphire????
Good list, very good list! : )
