Top Ten Video Games of All Time (for Men)

02. Fallout 3 (2008 Bethesda)

Vote: 4/4

While we are not knocking New Vegas -- it was good -- the world that we were immersed in when we played Fallout 3 went way beyond just simply good, because it was freaking fantastic. The French have a special phrase to describe it -- I think it's 'Freaking Fantastic!'

What Fallout 3 had going for it was manifest: you were overly attached to your character because first, you started playing them as a baby, and second, you were clearly the good guy (or gal) in this story. But then as the real story got going you discovered that all of it -- every bit -- was somehow interconnected, even when it seemed like it was not.

The combination of music, wasted environment, the rare oasis, and a dialogue script that must have weighed 80 pounds and gave each character you encountered their own vivid colorful self that you could easily suspend disbelief and see them as a person.

Fallout 3 may very well be the reason why many gamers hold on to their Xbox 360 or PS3 long after the next gen consoles dominate the market. This is a strongly recommended game for anyone who has not yet played it.
