Following the Scent of Microsoft at E3 2012

With apologies in advance to Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel (AKA Dr. Seuss) . . .
--==* Steve Hears a Who? *==--
On the tenth of January, wrapped up in toasty wool,

In the heat of the casino, standing by the indoor pool,

He was speaking video gaming... and motion controlled toys,

Then Steve Ballmer the CEO made a Microsofty noise.

Finally, at last! From that Window like a clover

Their Kinect connected! Its motions slick and clean.

And the Stevester waved a hand. "Do you see what I mean?"...

Our Xbox can sense motion, no matter how fast or small.

With Kinect it senses motion, even the smallest of them all!

How true! Yes, how true, we might have something new.

Of course we are not saying what we are planning next to do?...

If you want to know the secret, at E3 we will see you!

And the games journos and PR's in the casino said...

...ME, TOO!

Perhaps the biggest surprise at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show was the announcement by Microsoft that 2012 would be the last year that the company had an official presence at the show. Actually it was not really a surprise at the show, since the news that this would be Microsoft's final run at CES was announced well in advance of the opening of the doors on January 10th.

"We have decided that this coming January will be our last keynote presentation and booth at CES," said company spokesman Frank Shaw, in a December 21st, 2011 blog post on The Official Microsoft Blog.

"Our industry moves fast and changes faster," Shaw explained. "And so the way we communicate with our customers must change in equally speedy ways. To ensure it does, we constantly challenge our assumptions. For example:

"What's the right time and place to make announcements?

"Are we adjusting to the changing dynamics of our customers?

"Are we doing something because it's the right thing to do, or because it's the way we've always done it?"

"After thinking about questions like these, we have decided that this coming January will be our last keynote presentation and booth at CES. We'll continue to participate in CES as a great place to connect with partners and customers across the PC, phone and entertainment industries, but we won't have a keynote or booth after this year because our product news milestones generally don't align with the show's January timing," Shaw concludes.
