Planting flowers, fishing, and buying furniture sounds like it makes a pretty dull game, huh? Well, Animal Crossing is one of those games that makes plain, simple things a great experience. If you disagree, play this game and realize why it has made so many gamers addicted to it's longevity and simplistic gameplay.
Yes, I see that I rated the graphics here as a "6", however this game really deserves it. Particle effects are non existant, there aren't any textures, and I personally don't see any attempt to try to make this game look next-gen. People might say that these graphics are cute and stylish for this type of game, but I'm sorry people; graphics on the Gamecube that look like they belong on the N64 doesn't deserve a good mark.
Sound quality in Animal Crossing is a little improvement over the graphics department, but not by much. Do you want to know what an N64 sounds like? Play Animal Crossing to find out. The music is kind of catchy, but some of it can be a little annoying and repetative. Believe it or not, this game actually does have voice overs, but it's not what you think. The animals have their own language titled "animalese". They spit out gibberish sounding voices that are funny, and a little bit appealing.
Now we get to the good part. Gameplay is what really makes Animal Crossing what it is: incredibally addicting. Every second of Animal Crossing is, for some reason that I cannot think of, exceptionally fun. You have hundreds of things to do to make your town better, like planting flowers, digging holes, fishing, working on your house, buying furniture, or making your own custom clothes. You think this sounds like a dumb game? Play it and get sucked in. You'll see how fun it is.
This game will last you forever. Like I stated before, there are hundreds of things to do in Animal Crossing. Not only that, but this game never gets old. You can spend time chatting to your fellow townsanimals, writing letters, or saving up money in the bank/post office. This is one of those game which has no ending; you play forever, and then play some more. This game will last you a long time.
You're probably thinking "A nine? This guy rated graphics and sound quality terrible!" Well, yes, but Gameplay and Lastability is what makes Animal Crossing so addictingly fun! You will soon mind the graphics, and if you don't like the sound, then pop in your favorite CD and listen to that! Anyway, Animal Crossing is sure to please fans of games such as The Sims, or Harvest Moon.
